DeLay Pledges Contempt Charge for Terri Judge

House Majority Leader Tom DeLay pledged Friday to hold Florida state judge George Greer in contempt of Congress for ignoring a congressional subpoena for Terri Schiavo's testimony, saying, "No little judge sitting in a state district court in Florida is going to usurp the authority of Congress."

"The Congress will pursue this, if we have to hold him in contempt of Congress," DeLay told radio host Sean Hannity.

Pressed on whether he intended to hold Judge Greer in contempt, the top Republican told Hannity: "Absolutely, absolutely."

"We will do everything to enforce the power and authority of the Congress and no little judge sitting in a state district court in Florida is going to usurp the authority of Congress," he added.

Earlier in the day Judge Greer rebuffed the Schiavo subpoena, telling attorneys in the case, "I have had no cogent reason why the [congressional] committee should intervene." He claimed that the last-minute action on the part of Congress does not nullify years of legal proceedings.

But DeLay told Hannity, "This judge and the Supreme Court of Florida are well known to be liberal judges that have a different worldview and they're imposing their worldview on the law."

The top House leader said that "no sane person" could look at Schiavo and say she's in a persistent vegetative state.

DeLay called a lawyer for Michael Schiavo, who has pressed for years to have his wife starved to death, "the personification of evil."

So all the Judge Moore haters now owe him an apology and when he told the feds to take a leap he was correct.

Not on your life. Moore's plea went to the US Supreme Court, and he was denied.

When he refused to accept the order of a Federal Court, he was removed by his fellow state supremes, as he should have been.

But don't worry. Roy's always wanted to run for governor, and he gets to piggyback off the 10 commandments to do just that.

You should give copies to your doctor(s) and to your lawyer.

That's good advice, but it's probably not enough. Most people don't have a lawyer. Most doctors might put it in a file, but unless it's subpeonaed, they'll never look for it. Nobody's going to go searching for your directives from your OB-Gyn when you're nearly brain dead from a car wreck.

The only realistic answer under current law is your last one, and it's a good one. Make a copy for all your relatives who might argue about whether to kill you or keep you alive. That's the only way to be sure, because nobody else cares unless you somehow become a poster child for one cause or the other.

I heard the interview live on Hannity today and at one point Hannity played the statement by the lawyer who is apparently representing death. At one point the lawyer made the comment about 'artificially feeding' Terry through a tube in her stomach followed by demanding that she be allowed to die in peace.

I nearly jumped through the roof of my car I was so furious with those comments.

Now Greer should be removed for his own contemptuous lawlessness, but it's no coincidence that you weighed in on both cases against the "religious right" you so despise.

With all that has happened today, I wonder if God will ever Bless America again....sometimes it seems we don't deserve it.

Do you think Florida will have an exciting hurricane season again this year?

Then why do you want our Government/Judicial System to make decisions in the Schiavo case? Why can't you leave it to her husband as it should be?

Because it is murder. It is that simple. It should be the government that sets laws that defend against a person taking an other life, even if you do not see the value of that life.

Because it's not insurance money. It's medical trust fund money. The money that Michael won on behalf of Terri was specifically for the purpose of taking care of Terri. Has he done this? Nope. He's used it on himself, lawyer fees, etc. Check out http://terrisfight.org, http://blogsforterri.com. All the information is there.

So? What does all that mean? Will they reinsert the feeding tube back into Terri? That's what I want to hear. I know the judge sitting in that court is little...in fact he is a speck but...what is going to be done to put the tube back so Terri can live?

Ah, but why can't President Bush instruct his AG to order the US Attorney in that district to serve the congressional subpoena on the hospital, and take her to Washington to "testify" (just by her presence). Once she is out of the state of Florida, the feeding can continue.

And you know this how?

There's no insurance money. I've heard it repeated, over and over, by both Michael Schiavo and the Schindlers.

Hi Mr./Mrs. Pepper,
Think of it. Like Scott Peterson, life counted as nothing. The hubris to try to get away with this is so very self serving. I suspect Greer is tired of dealing with this case and want to move on. Judge Greer sees one cogent fact before him, and that is Terri Shiavo who smiles and coos and responds. This is no persistant vegetative state. Brain damaged, yes. Limited, yes, but a human being. And Judge Greer is defining thousands of lifes with wimsical adjudications. He was too busy to go and even lay his eyes on her. This is judicial tyrany and the only vestage of liberal power remaining. What it will take to stop and reverse this is 4 retiring Supreme Courts Justices and appointments by George W.Bush. They must be originalist. This will be his legacy is my prayer. Freeing millions in the middle east is a great legacy, but freeing hundreds of millions of Americans from the bonds of judicial tyrany is the only hope for this world, short of the Second Coming.
