House Majority Leader Tom DeLay pledged Friday to hold Florida state judge George Greer in contempt of Congress for ignoring a congressional subpoena for Terri Schiavo's testimony, saying, "No little judge sitting in a state district court in Florida is going to usurp the authority of Congress."
"The Congress will pursue this, if we have to hold him in contempt of Congress," DeLay told radio host Sean Hannity.
Pressed on whether he intended to hold Judge Greer in contempt, the top Republican told Hannity: "Absolutely, absolutely."
"We will do everything to enforce the power and authority of the Congress and no little judge sitting in a state district court in Florida is going to usurp the authority of Congress," he added.
Earlier in the day Judge Greer rebuffed the Schiavo subpoena, telling attorneys in the case, "I have had no cogent reason why the [congressional] committee should intervene." He claimed that the last-minute action on the part of Congress does not nullify years of legal proceedings.
But DeLay told Hannity, "This judge and the Supreme Court of Florida are well known to be liberal judges that have a different worldview and they're imposing their worldview on the law."
The top House leader said that "no sane person" could look at Schiavo and say she's in a persistent vegetative state.
DeLay called a lawyer for Michael Schiavo, who has pressed for years to have his wife starved to death, "the personification of evil."
>>>To friends, family, and millions of people praying around the world this Palm Sunday weekend: do not be afraid. Terri Schiavo will not be forsaken.>>>
I do find it ironic the timing of this... Palm Sunday.
But I am watching and I'm hoping my party doesn't let me down.
Well, then was that not a legal precedent in Florida? It's confusing.
Adding Mrs. King to our prayer list. Give him our best.
Good call. There is no law preventing the posting of the 10 commandments. Show it to me. It does not exist. A judicial ruling exist....but no law...so are we a nation of laws or of judicial fiat...inventing laws from the bench? If Greer followed the law he would have found that there is no "clear and convincing evidence" that Terri wished to have her feeding tube removed....A nation of laws indeed. Give me a break.
"IMHO, those fanatics and "activists" who worked so hard to push this thing to this level have driven railroad spikes into the credibility of the GOP and the conservative movement as a unit. Once again, our party is rent by narrow, single-issue maniacs Once again, we become laughing stocks.
Anyone who thinks that this is NOT the case, or who thinks "it's worth it!" is delusional."
LOL..... Oh my, up on your little 'rock' making declarations tonight.
Government is ok when it protects evolmites but outside of that it gets called 'delusional'.
'My party' is composed of party members. Look at all the gutless wonders who have popped out of the woodwork in this thread. With friends like these, who needs enemies?
All this breathless posturing is great for fund-raising when the good ole boys back home slap 'em on the back and say "Well, you kicked some ass, at least. Too bad she died."
I love Tom DeLay, but he's got to be tickled to no end to be able to stand by the flag and pretend to shake his finger in a state judge's face. Gets everybody's mind off all that ethics stuff.
It was in no politician's interest to get involved until the focus of the media was on zero hour!
A judicial oligarchy.
I meant he was a servant of the (scotus 9) in a slavish way.
I agree.

I totally agree Texas Songwriter.
I'm saddened beyond words.
What I'll never understand is this - Do we actually live in a country that requires the intervention of Congress to SAVE A DISABLE WOMAN whose HUSBAND SEEKS TO MURDER HER.
Something is drastically wrong with that picture. I doubt I'll ever believe the DCF couldn't have taken Terri into protective custody.
The DCF had approx 30+ detailed abuse charges against those whose control Terri. She apparently has been abused and NO one can do anything.. huh?? Why NO investigation?
ANSWER --> JUDGE GREER STOPPED IT.
Actually the Right has a goodly tilt towards life for Terri.
I'd love to, but I'm in Washington State. believe me if I were anywhere in the vicinity I wouldn't be here, I'd be down at that hospital.
Still, is that what he meant? If you have time check it out. It is very interesting that he chose that handle and tells me much about his thinking. I suspect if we ask, he might fess up.
There's no insurance money.
It pops up from time to time and we usually figure out a solution to it short of drowning all our judges in the Grand Canal (as they did wayward Doges in Medieval Venice).
Some societies never resolve the issue and the next thing you know the courts will have exterminated all the mentally retarded and handicapped people, and so numbed the people to the arrival of an Adolph Hitler.
Here we aren't going to let this Greer character get away with it.
"If you mean it's God's decision, fine, then let him feed her himself."
Wow - I thought Michael Schaivo was a sick puppy.
What ethics stuff? The politically motivated trumped-up charges the left fabricated?
You are reverting to your true Dimocrat shill form.
