A mentally disabled woman whose court ordered starvation-execution began Friday attempted to contradict her estranged husband's claim that she wants to die hours before her feeding tube was disconnected, an eyewitness is claiming.
Barbara Weller, an attorney for Terri Schiavo's parents, told reporters Friday afternoon that during her visit earlier in the day she told Ms. Schiavo:
"Terri, if you would just say, 'I want to live,' - all of this will be over."
According to pro-life activist Randall Terry, who recounted the scene to radio host Sean Hannity, Schiavo tried desperately to repeat Weller's words.
"'I waaaaannt . . .' Schiavo allegedly said, in a prolonged yell that had police stationed nearby running into her hospice room.
"She just started yelling, 'I waaaannt, I waaaannt,'" Terry said, according to Weller's account.
At that point police ejected Weller, he said.
You may be a cub, but your wisdom is mature.
Where are the opponents of the death penalty?
Inmates on death row win more successful appeals every day than Terri has had, and she is no criminal. This is a crisis for the values of this country.
In my experience, the family member with the most authority wins, but it is that person's ethical responsibility to follow the wishes of the patient, or as they best understand the patient. What efforts has her ex-husband made to determine what Terri wants? That's what it boils down to.
Oh, I may be wrong then. I must have seen something that wasn't (or just forgotten exactly what it is I saw over time)
Thanks.
He's a governor, not a king, and is constrained by the rule of law. They've already tried to be creative with the subpoena(perhaps overstepping their bounds), which reeks of desparation, though that aspect may not be over.
I'd have taped her anyway, turned it over to FoxNews and then turned myself over to the police for breaking the law.
'kinda' ???
Not to rachet things up, but do please remember that about 99.999% of judges are lawyers.
(with apologies in advance to the 1,214 lawyers in the country who are not lower than snake shit)
To think that, as a kid, I wanted to be an attorney but ended up a cabinetmaker almost proves the reality of miracles !
So what if Terri verbally said something along the lines of wanting to die if she were in a vegetative state at one point to her husband while they were allegedly watching tv, ...how can that alone decide this? What is the declaration of intent if it is not in writing??? It has to be in writing or it means diddle e squat. :)
"However, she has the ability to digest what is coming through the feeding tube..."
So does my Venus Flytrap ...
"Michael is the guardian according to the letter of the law."
No he isn't. He breached contract about 8 years ago. He has kids that are younger than her problem. (hint, from another woman he is living with)
The letter of the law is that in fact he has NO bearing on her. The letter of the media states otherwise.
ah, but a Venus Flytrap doesn't breath oxygen of it's own accord. It doesn't smile at people it recognizes. Terri does.
Creativity is the key, but with all the facts in the case he and the GOP legislature in Florida have not been nearly creative enough. If it were a Bush daughter being killed I bet the creativity would increase exponentially.
Either way, an innocent, nonterminal woman is going to die because of of twisted reasoning in the courts at odds with simple justice that even a child could see. (Simple justice: life for the innocent, punishment for the guilty).
"Even if she did say this, why on Earth would you assume she was doing anything more than mimicking what was spoken to her?"
It would be proof that she is able to think (regardless of on what level) and therefore intitled to life. Would you starve an autistic child? Or a stroke survivor?
"To those of you who don't believe that Terri wants/wanted to die, ask yourselves how many of you would want to be sustained in such a state?"
Well, if I was allowed by my spouse to leave the hospital, or to live with my family, I think I would be alot happier. Thanks for asking.
Your rules are set in stone. Throw those on our side overboard if they don't follow them exactly.
The initial comment you made about blood being on the hands of the Bush family was just inexcusable!
Whatever. I'll say it again then to make sure you know I meant it. If Terri Schiavo were a Bush daughter we would not be having this conversation right now. Where there's a will there's a way.
How about this slight rephrasing? Terri's pulled feeding tube is currently in the hands of the Bush brothers. Lets see if they can muster up some creative party leadership to have it put back in.
It's so simple even a child of five could understand it.
Groucho "Quick, someone fetch me a child of 5!"
