My E-mail Exchange With Daniel Ruth (Tampa Tribune) Re: His Jeb Bush Column

Over the course of the past two days I have had a running email dialogue with the Tampa Tribune's token liberal columnist, Daniel Ruth, regarding a column he wrote downplaying Jeb Bush's chances for president in the future. The FR posting and column is: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1364659/posts

I thought I'd share the content of the dialogue with all of you since it is comical and shows some insight into the mind of a liberal journalist. You've got to read his column first to appreciate the emails. The emails are as follows:

To the Mahatma of Metaphors:

Here's some reaction to your "astute" Jeb Bush analysis in the 3/17 column in TBO.com. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1364659/posts

All in all a good day's work. Curious about one thing though. Who is Mark Steyn? Never heard of him.

My response:

Mahatma:

Unfortunately, when all you read is the New York Times, your view of the world would probably not include Mark Steyn. I assumed you were just being sarcastic about not hearing about Mark Steyn but just in case-- to get you started, here is his home page at the Chicago Sun Times: http://www.suntimes.com/index/steyn.html. You'll just have to get one of your kids to help you Google more columns the rest of the way. I'm sure this will be helpful to you when you see how a real columnist writes. Glad to be of service.

Your friend,

Oh, he must have gotten there after I left the Sun-Times in 1991. But I've never heard of him. But that doesn't mean anything either. I had never heard of the free republic, until just now. Life is too short to spend one's time Googling.

As for how real columnists write and all of that, my advice is don't read me if you find it so annoying. Why would you do that? Makes no sense.

You got me there, Mahatma. Afterall, when I can read Mark Steyn why read anything else?

Ruth's response: Well have a nice time.

My response:

According to The New York Times Manual of Style and Usage, your sentence should read: Well, have a nice time. But a real journalist like Mark Steyn would already know that.

Your Friend,

Shortstop

Ruth's final response:

Well, who gives a rat's ass?

I used to read his comumns regularly, until he got way too liberal for my taste. I just pass right on by his rants now.

Not surprising...The Left wing press has lost all credibility and all they can do is bash those who disagree. I have had my own enounters...LOL. They are soo sensitive these days.

Can you imagine the meltdown if conservatives really acted as if they control the government? (Rushbo says this)

IIRC, during past visits to Tampa, I've heard this guy host a Saturday radio call in program.

If that's correct and he's still on the air, a Freep may be in order.

What's his position on the Shaivo affair?

He springs one thinking about what it would be like to yank her feeding tube out and then watch her die. Is this any surprise?
