Stacks of papers sit on a sun-drenched table in the home of University of Colorado professor Ward Churchill, some full of praise and others full of dark threats and unprintable insults.
In one message, liberal scholar Noam Chomsky calls Churchill's achievements of inestimable value, while an e-mail in another pile warns: "If you ever come to Florida, I will personally bash your (expletive) brains in."
This is Churchill's new life: Since January, he has been at the center of a firestorm over free speech for likening some Sept. 11 victims to Adolf Eichmann, a Nazi architect of the Holocaust. The governors of two states have called for his ouster and two attorneys with a Denver radio show have spent weeks compiling data they say proves Churchill is a rotten professor at best, a seditionist at worst.

He's not quite waving the white flag, but he's waving his BVDs..this is a "trial Balloon"...signalling he's fearful of getting fired, and losing his court case..he's hinting he'd be welcome to some settlement..
LOL. And that he's willing to come down on the amount, by the sound of it.
Poor baby....lifes a bitch when you spit on your flag....
Yup..to quote our President..."big time"
Just as Clinton said he was the first Black President, apparently WC claim to be an Indian is just as credible.
Could we sentence him to being shackled to and sleeping with Noam C for the rest of his miserable life?
The AP likes to report the Churchill case as a First Amendment, free speech, case.
What the AP doesn't report is the tax dollars going to UC that help to pay his salary.
Churchill has his First Amendment right of free speech, but what about the rights of people who don't want to pay his salary from tax dollars? Don't those people have rights too?
Freedom of speech isn't a one way street. If you take other people's money you're obliged to watch your mouth.
Oh, really, Wardo? Very scholarly of you.
My thoughts exactly. You worded it beautifully.
Sorry. That's better.
My thoughts exactly. Well put.
Very Scaaaary!
"Now that's not a cordial conversation. And yes, I supposed you could make a case that the object is to intimidate," he said. "But it's by exercise of legal right, not by beating the woman up. If I was inclined to do that, she'd have been beaten up a long time ago."
Hmmm. His next-to-last wife died under violent circumstances, and her family thinks Churchill played a bigger role than he admits to. And Churchill was caught on tape violently attacking a newspaper reporter. Seems like he IS inclined to do "that", after all.
Churchill said his mother and grandmother told him he was part Indian, and he thought of himself that way while growing up in Illinois.
When I was a kid I liked bananas so much that my mother used to say I was part monkey. Can I get CU to give me a professorship, too?
....one would expect to have a dialogue, agreeable or not, at our higher institutions of learning....but then...when liberalism takes over....one does not have freedom of thought or speech....only, and only if, the liberals agree with what you say can it be considered free speech.
It's hard to say it; but I really do hate Ward Churchill.
A kneecapping wouldn't give this man what he deserves.
Come on Morehouse, you've got to rescind the "honor" you bestowed on this creep.
The collection includes praise from Richard Falk, formerly at Princeton and now a visiting professor of global studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, who called Churchill an outstanding scholar of indigenous rights.
indigenous:Originating and living or occurring naturally in an area or environment
I guess I am "indigenous" too and so is my dog. (Actually, I don't have a dog, but point made.)
Several weeks ago, Newt Gingrich made a good argument along this line. Ward Churchill, he said, is entitled to speak freely -- the lst Amendment says so -- but speech can't be free if the government pays for it. "He who pays the piper calls the tune." Ergo, help Ward Churchill exercise his right to speak freely -- fire him. Only after the impediment of a government paycheck is lifted, said Gingrich, can Churchill truly speak without restraint...
Got that right. But only in a normal world.
Today, U of Colorado will make a resume fraud a Professor. Massachusetts would make
a resume fraud a judge, then have him investigate the BIG DIG.
and, of course, there is Nebraska KNOWINGLY hiring the murderer of Diane Fossey for a State job
"Man convicted of killing Dian Fossey (author of 'Gorillas in the Mist') loses job offer"
