RUSSIAN POLITOLOGISTS CALL ON EU AND NATO TO SUSPEND LATVIA'S MEMBERSHIP
MOSCOW, March 16 (RIA Novosti) - Russian politologists calls on the European Union and NATO to suspend Latvia's membership in these organizations until the Latvian authorities take measures to limit the growing political influence of Nazi supporters.
"Actions by the Latvian authorities in favour of rehabilitation of Nazism have become more intensive with the accession of Latvia to the EU and NATO", reads the joint statement by chairman of the National Civil Council for International Affairs Sergei Markov and chairman of its presidium and the Independent Organization Civil Society Sergei Abakumov. The statement has reached RIA Novosti.
"We call on the public of the EU countries, most of which has suffered from Nazism, to make their governments to bring pressure on the authorities of Latvia to prevent the revival of fascism, Nazism and other forms of radical nationalism. It has brought tremendous disasters to Europe and is again raising its head in Latvia and other countries of Europe", the statement reads.
Mr. Markov and Mr. Abakumov also invite deputies of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to consider the actions of the Latvian authorities towards the rehabilitation of Nazism.
Simultaneously, the Russian politologists voice "support for the democratic forces of Latvia, above all the coalition For Human Rights in United Latvia, in their struggle against the supporters of Nazism and other forms of ultra-nationalism".
Wow! Amazing - and just why did the Nazis have a problem with communism???? Because they saw it as a JEWISH conspiracy to enslave the world. That's right - Communists were dominated by JEWS, therefore it must be destroyed. So, it was about the JEWS.
In other news, RIA Novosti reported that the Western MSM rejoices at the news that thousands of Bolsheviks marched in Red Square.
Maybe Latvia needs a strong-arm dictator to prevent marches?
In view of Russia's behavior in Baltics in1940 - Russia does not have any moral standing even to fart on this subject, to speak nothing of protesting. Since it considers itself to be a successor state to the USSR - it succeeded to USSR reputation and the responsibility for its history as well. I do not know how to live down such a reputation, but several generations of blameless behavior seem to be a minimum. Germany's denazification efforts come to mind as a convenient example.
Why a strong arm dictator? Last time I checked we don't have SS guys marching through our streets, nor do we have a monument to them - is that because we have a "strong-arm dictator"???? Common decency doesn't allow it. There is no excuse to "honor" men who allied themselves with the Nazis.
The Balts cannot have it both ways - they can not build their museums of occupation and then either look the other way or encourage celebration of their folks who allied with Hitler's troops.
Should they allow a monument to and celebrations of their Soviet occupiers? It's about the same.
I've been to Latvia several times, it's a fantastic place - they are way better than this.
How would you feel if I told you that a bunch of Nazis wanted to march in Skokie, Illinois?
The same as any Latvian, Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, American, Brit, etc, who lost relatives to the Nazis.
The reason my grandfather's family initially supported the National Socialists was not because they hated Jews. Out conservative family hated the Versailles treaty, which was manifestly unjust towards Germany. Beyond that, they were disgusted with the Wiemar government and its promotion of moral decadence. And finally, they had a justified fear of the Soviet Union and communism.
Our family came to regret their support of the Nazis - the Nazi hierarchy turned out to be just as bad as the communists.
But something you must keep in mind. Just because the NY Times tells you that antisemitism animated the German armies is no reason to believe it. In essence, the German solider was against liberalism & communism, not Jews.
