Bush Recommends Wolfowitz to Head World Bank
By William Branigin Washington Post Staff Writers Wednesday, March 16, 2005; 11:47 AM
President Bush said today he is nominating Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul D. Wolfowitz to be the next president of the World Bank, tapping one of his administration's most controversial figures as the U.S. choice to head the 184-nation institution.
Bush confirmed the recommendation of Wolfowitz at a news conference this morning after a senior administration official had disclosed that the president was putting the name forward. The official said Wolfowitz wants the job and that no one has yet been chosen to replace him at the Pentagon.
Bush revealed his choice in response to a question at the press conference, an unusual way for a president to first make public such a nomination.

Better than Bono IMO!
I think it'll drive some people nuts.
Bush on offense again. This will drive more Democrat insanity. Insane Democrat reaction = Progress and good news.
Most excellent choice. I love Wolfowitz!
Uh oh, the "Go Pat Go!" crowd is not going to like this...
And, welcome to FR this week.
The MSM attacks the President on a daily basis anyway. Might as well give them something to complain about, so they don't have so much time to dig up forgeries and lies.
I met Eugene Black once, at tea after a sailboat race. Those were the days when the bank had some respect and there was a widespread illusion that it might do some good in the world. Maybe Wolfowitz can get it back on track.
Isn't that where LBJ sent McNamara when he wanted to be rid of him?
You know I think regardless of the merits of Wolfowitz Bush's approach of going face to face with the liberal media establishment instead of trying to be diplomatic with it might be the greatest thing about GWB. It seems to me to me that future Republican presidents should seriously consider that the MSM should be considered as already dead. We should have a funeral for the MSM.
this appointment is consistent with his appointment of bolton to UN envoy. no mercy, no backing off...
I think it's great! And .. after hearing the incoherent statement regarding it from Nancy Pelosi - I think it's even greater!!
Wolfowitz is a wonderful choice. A visionary thinker, with a good grasp of the power of Liberty.
"And I sincerely believe, with you, that banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies; and that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity, under the name of funding, is but swindling futurity on a large scale."-- Thomas Jefferson to John Taylor, May 28, 1816
It'll drive the libs nuts, so I'm all for it.
"how the "BFEE" is taking over the world."
What's "BFEE"?
