Haus says the most common way engaged men plan for the worst is by setting up a savings account in the name of a relative they trust who has had a long, sound marriage so their funds will be safe. This way once the joint assets are divided after a divorce, they will have a little something extra to fall back on.

Here's an even BETTER idea: take your time before getting married, and get counseling before you walk down the isle. There are plenty of services out there - church-based ones are probably best - to get your head straight before taking the plunge.

No accounts are secret from taxes, or secret from the laws of wills and estates. If you've hidden a pile of money with a relative, someone is paying income tax on any income from it. Gift tax and/or income tax was due on it when you "gave" it to the relative, and income and gift taxes, perhaps even estate taxes (gee I hope this secret money was specifically accounted for in the will!) will be due on it if and when it is "given" back to you.
My what a tangled web we weave.....

My take on the subject is that if you feel like you have to hide things from someone because you fear they may someday take it from you, then you probably shouldn't be getting married to them.
But then, I have never been married, so what do I know.

Like a pre-nup, this seems to me to be a virtual guarantee that you *will* divorce.

totally ridiculous study and premise.....the "man" gets "screwed".....now, how many professional study doers use the word "screwed" in their wording.....LOL....
as to his ideas, it would make much more sense for women to set up a little nest egg, since its women who will be forced into poverty upon divoces, especially since they interupt their education and careers for motherhood, etc, or to move with the husband's company....
NOT TO SAY THAT I BELIEVE IN ANY OF THIS NONSENSE....because I don't....
Joel Osteen said a few weeks ago...."leave the safe and go with the faith" which makes all the sense in the world...
if you start hedging your bets about marriage, then you will ensure failure.....

If I found out my fiance was doing this, I wouldn't marry him. We have had numerous conversations about marriage, and we agree that we will not get divorced. No matter what.

Interesting.
Even better would be to burn down the house, empty the accounts in Vegas, cancel the life insurance, then hang yourself.

Face it, women are smarter -- they hide their divorce nest eggs in plain sight. Diamonds really are a girl's best friend...

The divorce system MAY seem biased against men...and to cure this way of thinking, I believe that men should automatically get the kids when divorcing. Then tell me how much it costs them.

Then there will be no need for the nest egg.
