U.S. Rep. Mike Honda, D-San Jose, introduced the bill, called the Student Privacy Protection Act of 2005, last month in the House of Representatives.[snip]

"While I support the right of the armed services to recruit high school students, I don’t believe successful military recruitment efforts require access to students’ personal information without their consent," Honda said. "The right to divulge or not divulge personal information about minors should remain with the students and their parents." [snip]

The bill amends the controversial No Child Left Behind Act, which requires schools receiving federal money to release student contact information to recruiters. [snip]

Left is going to do everything in their power to de-fang the US military and make war an impossibility.

I don't think the recruiters should be given access to student's home information. If a student is interested in the military, they will be able to find the recruiter.

So according to this leftist 'Rat, every government agency should have full rights to anyone's personal records EXCEPT for the military or intelligence agencies? They will never get it.

I agree. Let the recruiters go to all the schools and give a presentation or something like that, but don't have them search through personal profiles of kids.

I think a phone call or two is the “price” they have to pay for me helping pay for their education. If they don’t want a recruiter to call, they can attend a school that doesn’t’ take the money.

".....personal information about minors should remain with the students and their parents."

Congress critter Mike Honda is a conflicted a$$hole...

I'm shocked he wants the parents involved in releasing "personal information" about the student --- since he didn't feel the parent should be "involved" in any decision to provide an abortion to a minor child....

Mike Honda is the SAME a$$hole that signed the document with Congressional Communists, requesting the U.N. monitoring of the last Presidential Elections to ensure a "fair and legal" process...

Yep, THAT Mike Honda...
The congenial, smiling, empty headed, wrong headed Marxist wannabe.

"There is no phone callas at all here."

If not the phone number, what information transfer is objectionable and why?

A federal bill that shields high school students from military recruiters is gaining both local and national support.

No it's not,

Some parents and students at the time thought it more appropriate to have an "opt in" area on school forms, rather than only the "opt out" system that currently exists.

No other county district took such action. All districts allow military recruiters on high school campuses.

After six months of fighting with the Department of Defense, the district decided to provide the information to recruiters without changes to procedure.

"I don’t think it has much legs, but I also think it’s important for parents to have these rights," said John Collins, president of the Santa Cruz City Schools board. "Parents have the right to op-out of sex education. I think this is the same principle."

Wishful thinking by dems and a reporter.

They could use every piece of information on these students in a database and mine it for those most prone for joining the military.

My son met an Air Force Academy recruiter at his High School when he was in the 10th grade. He saw a goal at that time and worked hard, volunteered time, did everything he could think of to look like Air Force Academy Material: He made it and thanks to recruiters coming to the High School it is all coming together for him. He may be a jet pilot some day now. I have another son, a 10th grader interested in West Point now because of a recruiter coming to his High School.

You can think you can hide your kids from what they want in life but all you are doing is bringing kids up, not RAISING them.

Grow up.

I would go along with not divulging this information to the recruiters IF the schools agreed to never release any information to anyone else without a signed affidavit from the parents and would also require parental notification regarding abortion---
