I would love it if on Monday a studio announces a new version of "The Avengers" starring Catherine Zeta-Jones.

When I need to work up my nerve to write a tough column, I try to think of myself as Emma Peel in a black leather catsuit...

Given the right lighting and makeup artists, CZJ IS stunning; however, points are subtracted for whom she married and how she looks without a cast of thousands spackling upon her (did you see those telephoto pictures of her and michael taken right after her last child was born???).

Well, given anything but the total absense of light, MoDo is an absolute beast . . . and that is before she opens her mouth!

Every now and again, a writer comes up with a mental image that makes you jump back and say, "Whoa!" Maureen Dowd just did that with her reference to Emma Peel in black leather, with a self-reference.
Recall Emma Peel (Diana Rigg) in that outfit in "The Hellfire Club" episode of
The Avengers. Now that was a moment of perfection. Same with Julie Newmar as the original Cat Woman. Or if your memory goes way back, the same Julie Newmar as "Stupifyin' Jones" in Li'l Abner.
But Maureen Dowd in a black leather suit? Talk about putting lipstick on a pig! Whoa!
Might as well go whole hog imagine Helen Thomas in black leather. (Profound apologies to anyone who's just eaten.)
But Dowd does perform an inadvertent public service in this column. With a blazing lack of self-awareness, she defines herself precisely. She is a harridan. And even the olf French basis for that word also fits her like the collar on a dray horse hauling ice in the turn of the century streets of New York.
While she complains about the lack of female writers, she still holds down a writing slot that ought to belong to a real writer. Michelle Malkin comes to mind.

Might as well go whole hog imagine Helen Thomas in black leather. And with that, you have won to gold medal for the single most disgusting mental image ever!

Your tagline reminds me of a famous quote by Alexander Dumas

Why do women need to be found and nurtured? Are they too weak to get on the op-ed pages and fight for it like men do? I thought women were THE SAME and JUST AS CAPABLE as men.Maybe MoDo should just throw up her hands and have a sex change operation.

Thang Q verry much. I wondered about posting that up. But there's good perfection, and bad perfection. Heck, the opening was there, and I took the shot.

Out of what will soon be eight Times Op-Ed columnists - nine, counting the public editor - I'm the only woman. Hmmm... Could you be the token woman Mo, like thanks to affirmative action type policies.
But I have no doubt there are plenty of brilliant women who would bring grace and guts to our nation's op-ed pages..[Snip].... We just need to find and nurture them
No MoDo we don't. Only if they are liberal wilting flowers like you, otherwise there is no shortage, or need to nurture: Coultler, Malkin, Charen, Chavez, King (Florence) etcccc. Your stupid editors need only open their minds.
