Every now and again, a writer comes up with a mental image that makes you jump back and say, "Whoa!" Maureen Dowd just did that with her reference to Emma Peel in black leather, with a self-reference.

Recall Emma Peel (Diana Rigg) in that outfit in "The Hellfire Club" episode of

The Avengers. Now that was a moment of perfection. Same with Julie Newmar as the original Cat Woman. Or if your memory goes way back, the same Julie Newmar as "Stupifyin' Jones" in Li'l Abner.

But Maureen Dowd in a black leather suit? Talk about putting lipstick on a pig! Whoa!
