MADRID (AFX) - Spain's Islamic Commission, which groups the nation's Muslim community, said it was issuing a fatwa against Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, 'We are going to issue a fatwa (religious decree) against Bin Laden this afternoon,' Mansour Escudero, who leads the Federation of Islamic religious entities (Feeri) and co-secretary general of the Spanish governmenmt-created Commission told AFP.

The Commission invited Spanish-based imams to condemn terrorism at Friday prayers, when the whole country will be remembering the 191 people who were killed in the train blasts and the 1,900 injured a year ago. The attacks have been blamed on mainly Moroccan Islamic extremists loyal to Bin Laden.

'We have called on imams to make a formal declaration condemning terrorism and for a special prayer for all the victims of terrorism,' Escudero said.

The Commission has also drawn up a document designed to 'thank the Spanish people and the government for their attitude towards Muslims' since last March 11, in particular for not taking 'disproportionate' measures similar to those which the Sept 11 attacks sparked in the US.

The Commission called on Muslims to take part in Friday's commemorative programme being organised by Spanish authorities and community groups and to work with them to ensure terrorism was defeated.

Finally, some showing of what the President is talking about when he refers to a "religin of peace." I'm glad to see some Muslim leaders speaking up against bin Laden. Hopefully, something will come of it.

Nope, This is what the President said would happen:

" Our response involves far more than instant retaliation and isolated strikes. Americans should not expect one battle, but a lengthy campaign, unlike any other we have ever seen. It may include dramatic strikes, visible on TV, and covert operations, secret even in success. We will starve terrorists of funding, turn them one against another, drive them from place to place, until there is no refuge or no rest. And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation, in every region, now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists...... This is a start. If the other muslim groups in France, Italy, and Germany...can do the same thing...then pressure will spread around the globe. Ossama may find support within Saudi Arabia...but his support outside of the middle east is slowly drying up.

This group has just signed up to be the next target of Bin Laden and company. If they are up to the task they will take Bin Laden down.

What measures in the U.S. were taken which were "disproportionate"? Well, we didn't roll over and vote for THEIR choice as President, as was the case in Spain. The people of the U.S. aren't going to bend over like the Spanish did. Gimme a break!

Hogwash, the Muslims got kicked out of Spain once before, and they don't want another 'reconquista'. It shouldn't bother them though, Ferdinand and Isabella died a long time ago and modern Spaniards aren't exactly El Cids.

Does this remind anyone of the part in the film "Team America" where the guy tells Osama "if you don't accept me into your jihad, I will declare a jihad on you" ?

I suspect they are only unhappy about the killing of muslims. Just fine to kill non-death-cultists.
