"I won't let a an actor's politics dicate what I watch and what I won't watch. "

I agree with you, but I have to tell you, sometimes it's hard to watch an actor whose politics are far left, or even far right. You see their message creeping into the work.

I love Newman's old films like Long Hot Summer, Hustler, Sweet Bird of Youth, From the Terrace, The YOung Philadelphians. The Verdict and Absence of Malice were great too. I mean he always would play these guys who were traditional and conservatives. In fact, I was surprised to hear that he's to the left. But actually, he's not way out in his thinking for me not to watch his movies.

I think he's settled in to that simple life where the most important thing on his mind most days is if he's regular or not.

Newman said carefully. "It does not seem to be of the people, by the people and for the people. It seems to be about something else completely different.

Well at least this administration is not selling our nuclear secrets to China and N. Korea. Mr. Newman, I used to think you were the sexiest man alive..then the torch passed to Steve McQueen...now Mel Gibson carries the torch. My taste in heroes improved as I got older and wiser. I still won't buy your salad dressing.

I agree - what election was he watching ..?? I guess 62 million voters is not enough for him to indicate the PEOPLE are making THEIR choice.

Paul - JUST SHUT UP AND ACT!!

I like Newman as an actor. He is passionate and walks his talk. I just disagree with a lot of his political positions. He is free to use his money as he sees fit. We just have to make sure we do our bit on that score to help our candidates. Newman is an Ohio boy who may team up with Martin Sheen one day and lead our beloved state back to their vision of the liberal promised land. Yeeeccchhhh...

But Newman does take a pro-nuclear stance (he believes it is an environmentally benign source of energy, and he's right about that), so I will find common ground with him on one issue, anyway. Hey, it's the proverbial "reaching out" I keep hearing about.

"I think part of it is the media’s fault for not being more aggressive and persistent and nasty and I think it’s the people’s fault for not paying attention. That’s not a good combination. It allows people in government to do pretty much what they want."

This says a lot about the pathology of this mindset.

They feel that their best strategy is to be aggressive, persistent and nasty. And if they fail, it was only because they weren't aggressive, persistent and nasty enough.

Its sad really.

I think his career wound down without him several years back.

LOL Other than "Road To Perdition" (which I liked), I can't think of any movies he's made in the last 15 or 20 years--I'm sure he made several, I just can't remember them :)

I don't care if Paul Newman is a card carrying commie, the man is a stud, a true patriot and a gentleman.

Says a guy that signed up last week.

From http://www.broadway.com/gen/Buzz_Star_File.aspx?CI=23123

"Fun Fact: Newman invested in the magazine The Nation in the mid-1990s. In 1997, he wrote an editorial for the magazine which parodied Senator Jesse Helms."

Other sources cite him as part owner.

You forgot to mention Newman's first wife who he dumped in a very timely manner upon meeting Woodward. They had three small children at the time. One son became heavily involved with drugs and eventually committed suicide.

ROFL!

It's easier to avoid some lefty actors than it is others--like Alec Baldwin. Nine out of ten movies he makes stink so there's no big loss there. Same with Sarandon and her "life-partner" Tim Robbins (though I do overlook Robbins' liberalism when Shawshank Redemption is on).

It's amazing to me that people on this board love to put down people like Newman because they're 'Hollywood' but then lionize fakes like Rush. Newman doesn't make a dime off his pasta sauce, dressings and popcorn because he donates all the profit to a charity for children. He has also been married to the same woman for about 50 years. Rush on the other hand has been divorced three times, has no children and I could be wrong but I have never heard of him being linked significantly to any worthwhile charity. Oh yea, and Rush is a drug addict. I'll take Newman any day over Limbaugh.

Paul Newman is a useful idiot for an ideology that seeks to destroy pretty much everything good in this country and turn it into an amoral, socialist hellhole. He is subservient to an ideology that seeks to destroy the family, promote lethal sexual behavior, reward incompetence and laziness, punish initiative and hard work, and ban Judeo-Christian teachings from the continent, if not the world. I don't care if Newman personally performs heart surgery on 10 kids per day for free - in the end he serves only evil, whether through intent or stupidity. Rush, on the other hand, regardless of his personal failings, puts himself on the line daily to expose this ideology for the pile of excrement that it is. Rush may make money, but he also endures more derision and demonization daily than most people could bear in their lifetimes.

I'll take Rush, along with his divorces and drug addiction, over that mindless moron Newman any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Ditto. It's just sad that people have to let politics dictate every facet of their life. I don't care if Paul Newman is a card carrying commie, the man is a stud, a true patriot and a gentleman.

Politics have entered about every facet of life, you can't avoid it. To ignore it is irresponsible and letting it control your life will make you miserable. You have to do both.

"It does not seem to be of the people, by the people and for the people.

Then why did The People elect the administration? Paul must mean "It's not of the people I like, by the people I favor, and for the people who are my friends."

Joe Lieberman "conservative?" What a laugh! Anyone who is not in bed with the looney left wing of the Demo party is conservative to these simpletons, I guess.
