John McCain Gets Soros Cash

Senator John McCain's Reform Institute has suffered some bad press recently due to its involvement in an influence-peddling scandal with Cablevision. As usual, however, mainstream media have failed to go to the root of the matter.

Founded on June 26, 2001, McCain's Reform Institute for Campaign and Election Issues has long served as a nerve center for the so-called "campaign finance reform" movement – a movement which has done nothing to clean up campaign finance, but has done a great deal to empower federal judges and government bureaucrats to regulate political speech, in defiance of the Bill of Rights.

Now here's the kicker. The list of donors published on the Reform Institute's Web site reads like a veritable Who's Who of radical, leftwing foundations, including the Tides Foundation, the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Proteus Fund and George Soros' Open Society Institute. (hat tip, Winfield Myers)

Not surprisingly, in view of the above associations, Arianna Huffington serves on the Reform Institute's Advisory Board. Huffington has long acted as a front for George Soros' "campaign finance reform" efforts. In 2000, she organized the so-called Shadow Conventions which provided John McCain with a bully pulpit to stump for his now-infamous McCain-Feingold Act. George Soros shouldered about one third of the cost of the Shadow Conventions.

The problem is simple. He wants to be liked by the elite. He is a crowd pleaser and nothing more. That makes him just an empty suit.

Anyone that likes McCain has no business on a CONSERVATIVE forum IMHO. If you have a problem with that well, like you said earlier.

McCain has traded on his P.O.W. past to sell his goofy and unpatriotic views. He is a PHONY folks. Lets hope, if he runs for re-election that he loses bigtime. Just think what a mess this country would be in if he had succeeded in his run for the Presidency and won the nomination and election. Thank God, who works in mysterious ways.

I grew up down the street from a crew member of the USS. Indianapolis. He was a brave man but what he went through too all the fight out of him. McCain is the same way. The visit with the NV causes him to want to duck from a real fight.

"The visit with the NV causes him to want to duck from a real fight." Yes that does make a lot of sense.

Excellent revelations regarding our Senator.

Unfortunately, Hillary would be even worse.

I don't know why McCain would run again.

If he does, he would find himself devastated by the negative publicity he would most certainly receive.

Yes. But we can't set Benedict Arnold's pre-betrayal record up as a standard of military service. He was really a great soldier, albeit one with bad luck. He made an incredible effort in the Canadian campaign (Montreal?) against not only stronger enemy forces but horrible cold. He lost that battle through no fault of his own.

Then, although he held no command in the battle, he grabbed some troops who were standing around in the battle of Saratoga and led them into the battle at the critical time, winning the battle. Some military historians consider Saratoga to be the "decisive" battle of the Revolutionary War. I don't agree, but it seems important.

In fact, it was this tremendous drive, energy, and sacrifice, combined with little recognition and being treated like a failure, that led him to betray his country. Not that these things (or anything) justify such a heinous act---they do not.

It just seems ironic to me that setting (the pre-traitorous) Benedict Arnold as a standard for a soldier would be a high standard indeed.

Savage is a smart who many here don't understand his correct observations and weaknesses. Savage is right on McCain.

You hit the nail on the head with Savage. One thing people have to do is take him seriously when he says he's an entertainer. He means it. That is probably not something Sean Hannity would say. I am not, however, judging one over the other.
