I'd Rather Not Say Good-Bye, Dan
Macon Daily ^ | March 9, 2005 06:39 AM ET | Greg Palast

Posted on 03/09/2005 6:59:05 AM PST by toddlintown

MACON,GA.- Without his make-up, Dan looked like hell warmed over: old, defeated, yet angry. And he told our television audience something that just blew me away. Dan Rather said that American reporters may not ask tough questions about George Bush or his wars.

"It's an obscene comparison," Rather said, "but there was a time in South Africa when people would put flaming tires around peoples' necks if they dissented. In some ways, the fear is that you will be neck-laced here, you will have a flaming tire of lack of patriotism put around your neck."

I'd bet this is more common today then it was "back in the day". SA is crime-infested.

The entire article is perverse.

Incredible hypocrisy particularly in light of the media's refusal to ask Kerry about his military records.

Dan Rather the journalistic hero who sat on the Gary Condit story until that retard Imus called him on it after 2 months.

There are so many instances of BS involving Rather and the so called media.

I was under the impression that this act was done by blacks to other blacks as punishment for working with the government. But, this is Dan Rather speaking, so I must be incorrect.

Palast is a piece of garbage who knowingly lies/misrepresents facts about both the 2000 election and the 2004 election. Just as one example, he claimed there were sufficient "uncounted" votes in Ohio to tip the electiin to Kerry, because such votes uncounted votes tend to go overwhelmingly for democrats.

This completely ignored the reams of data from the Florida 2000 election, where recounts of more than double the number of uncounted votes as there were in Ohio barely changed the results at all.

He's a hack.

What Dishonest Dan isn't telling here? The people who practiced the necklacing (neck-lacing?) were the ones he supported and still believes were right.

Dan, if the tire fits, wear it.

This is why many made the decision, as I have, to never buy another MSM newspaper or listen to another MSM television so-called newcast.

Their credibility is zero.

Did Danny boy ever report that putting tires around peoples necks and lighting them -Necklacing- was the brain child of Winnie Mandella-wife of Nelson? I doubt it. What a lying, despicable two-faced loser. Good riddance and not a fond farewell.

Sorry, I wasn't able to actually read the article cited. I was too busy conjuring a mental image of Danny wearing a flaming tire.

You said it. Given their latest attempt to stem audience erosion with maybe Bush was right stories, perhaps Olde Media now appreciates what Gilder tried to tell them all those years ago: In the world of the teleputer, broadcasters, educators, investors, and filmmakers, who thought they could never go broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people, are going to discover they were wrong.

From the link: Yes, yes, he shouldn't have embellished the story with a document he couldn't fully source.

In other words, he should not have lied with phony documents!

Greg Palast is using undeserved oxygen.

I had the best laugh last night.

I was doing wash, and had the TV on, but not watching. That magazine show hosted by Deborah Norville was on. Right before a commercial break, she said she would share her memories of Dan as when they returned. I nearly turned the channel so I wouldn't have to hear it, but I'm glad I didn't.

She came back and started to reminisce about how when she joined CBS, he sent her a welcome note and some CBS paraphanelia, and then. . . .

The show was cut off right in mid sentence and it went to commercial!!!

In my mind, I chose to believe that someone at the local station just chose to press the button as a way of expressing his or her opinion. It was great.
