Im more comfortable with simplicity. The simpler a gun the better I like it. My favorite (baretta 9mm) had a visible safety that covered the firing pin. Very safe, sturdy gun, pretty accurate too.

I didn't mean empty. The magazine is loaded, just don't keep one in the chamber.

My CCW Glocks, I do keep loaded with one in the chamber but always keep them in horse leather holsters.

Every Glock owner who is trained on their gun knows the gun has three safeties. The operator has one safety which is located between their ears. Despite all these safeties if the operator exerts 5.5 or 8.5 pounds pressure rearwards all safeties are overridden.

The Glock has no external safeties. It does have a trigger, firing pin, and dropped gun safety. When most people think of safeties they are thinking of something they have to manipulate to get the gun to fire.

Glocks are fine. They can have the sweetest triggers in the world.

I guess I didn't see a problem with them not having a safety since I came from revolvers.

And a hammer wouldn't have helped to prevent this. The slide was back when the 2d officer handed the weapon back to him. He just let it slide forward and then pulled the trigger. I presume he would have done the same, thinking it was unloaded anyhow, if a hammer was showing cocked.

As a side note, my wife says she knows this guy. I'm going to show her the movie tonight and see what she says :-)

DEA Agent Shoots Self During Gun Safety Class

11:27 am EDT April 30, 2004 ORLANDO, Fla. -- A federal drug agent shot himself in the leg during a gun safety presentation to children and his bosses are investigating.

The Drug Enforcement Administration agent, whose name was not released, was giving a gun safety presentation to about 50 adults and students organized by the Orlando Minority Youth Golf Association, witnesses and police said.

He drew his .40-caliber duty weapon and removed the magazine, according to the police report. Then he pulled back the slide and asked someone in the audience to look inside the gun and confirm it wasn't loaded, the report said.

Witnesses said the gun was pointed at the floor and when he released the slide, one shot fired into the top of his left thigh.

"The kids screamed and started to cry," said Vivian Farmer, who attended the presentation with her 13-year-old nephew.

"Everyone was pretty shaken up," Farmer said. "But the point of gun safety hit home. Unfortunately, the agent had to get shot. But after seeing that, my nephew doesn't want to have anything to do with guns."

The agent was treated at Orlando Regional Medical Center after the April 9 shooting and returned to work, DEA special agent Joe Kilmer said.

Police ruled the shooting was an accident, but the DEA headquarters in Washington was still investigating, Kilmer said.
