I'll stay with Jeff's rules.
And no, this character wasn't trained by anyone's rules or at least he didn't pay attention in class.

Please check my understanding: Seems to me the sequence was wrong. He/we should drop the magazine FIRST, then pull the slide back and check the chamber? The way it's described, the fact that the chamber was empty before dropping the magazine is irrelevant. If the magazine is still in place, and the slide is closed, it will chamber a round if the magazine has one?Your understanding of the obvious is truly outstanding.

Please explain to me how "Jeff's Rules" caused this ND. As you say, ND's are always caused by ignorance or carelessness, how can complying with "Jeff's Rules" possibly have caused this bit of boobery?

What ever works for ya.
You follow and teach the NRA rules, and I'll stick with Coopers Rules.

Rule 3 Always keep your gun unloaded until ready to use. Depending on what one means by "ready to use", this could be a recipe for disaster as well. The cop on the beat doesn't keep his duty weapon unloaded, neither should a citizen keep his "ready" weapon unloaded. As I type I have one .45 ACP beside me and another in a bedside drawer, both loaded. (they are child safe though, first their are no children in my house, and second they have loaded magazines, but the chambers are empty (but the hammers are cocked to make cycling the slide easier) I think I like Col. Coopers methods better than the NRA's. Not that there is any real difference other than the "keep your guns unloaded". Even that is fine as long as the proper definition of "ready to use" is applied.

Lots of posts on this one, don't know if you've seen it. I bet you know a few people who would get a laugh with this one. Or else really angry.

If it is a carry gun it is always ready to use.

Reminds me of the Marine 2nd louie who did the same thing in GWI. Except the louie put the gun to his head and pulled the trigger to show the gun was unloaded. Only problem was the Beretta was still loaded and the guy splattered his cheese all over the vehicle he was standing next to.
