Coming soon to an elementary school near you: A "We Are Family" music video intended to "demonstrate the importance of togetherness embodied in the word 'family.'"
The producers and distributors of the video -- including the We Are Family Foundation and the Anti-Defamation League -- are inviting reporters to cover its debut at the Jean Parker Elementary School in San Francisco on Thursday, March 10.
The video brings together more than 100 cartoon characters (Arthur, Barney, Big Bird, etc.), and it also features cameo appearances by Bill Cosby, Diana Ross and Whoopi Goldberg -- the latter widely criticized by Republicans for her vulgar references to President Bush at a 2004 Democrat fundraiser.
The music video, in DVD format, is going out this week to more than 60,000 public elementary schools and thousands of private schools. FedEx is shipping the DVD for free. It said it is proud to do so, because "promoting diversity is part of our corporate culture at FedEx."
'Diversity as a unifying force'
The producers say the We Are Family music video "may be used alone to bring classes or school communities together; as a supplement to current family/diversity programs in schools; or as a complete educational tool utilizing the teacher's guide provided with the DVD."
The teacher's guide -- developed by the Anti-Defamation League's A World of Difference Institute and its Miller Early Childhood Program -- "includes easy-to-do lessons and activities that will help children understand the idea of global community, and to recognize that the celebration of diversity is a positive, enriching, and unifying force in our world."

OK, I''l bite - how does highlighting our differences unify us?
Tower of Babel redux.
"This is a F'n crime against children that ought to be met with extreme prejudice and violence if necessary!"
Right! THAT'S what we need to be teaching our children - extreme prejudice and violence!!!
Isn't this the same group of liberals who preach that the right cannot force its morality on all?
"Right! THAT'S what we need to be teaching our children - extreme prejudice and violence!!!"
Nice to know you support the indoctrination of children by perverts. THAT'S what we need...
Our Children? Worry about your own children and stop trying to corrupt mine.
"Worry about your own children and stop trying to corrupt mine."
I was being extremely sarcastic. I have no intention of forcing neither prejudice, violence, nor perversion onto your children, nor do I support measures that do.
"FedEx is shipping the DVD for free. It said it is proud to do so, because "promoting diversity is part of our corporate culture at FedEx"
No doubt FedEx would be proud to provide me with free shipping for my 60,000 DVD's promoting traditional family values.
When do we get to take off the gloves?
"Nice to know you support the indoctrination of children by perverts. THAT'S what we need..."
No, I just don't support countering this by teaching our children extreme prejudice and violence.
It's not "extreme prejudice".
Righteous indignation and righteous anger are very acceptable - even biblical - reactions to the attempted poisoning and corruption of our young.
Keep your ignorance, hatred, prejudice, and violence away from my kids. Your ignorance too is here for all to see.
buh bye.
"Righteous indignation and righteous anger are very acceptable"
No argument. But neither of those are in the same category as 'extreme prejudice and violence', neither of which you've advocated either.
I advocate targeting and eliminating this type of brainwashing on our children. And if "extreme prejudice and violence" are the only ways to acheive that end, then so be it.
A time will come when we're left with no other choice than to handle this in such a manner. The wolves are already in the sheepfold. Ignoring and pacifying them didn't work - it only emboldened them further.
Pinging you here for commentary...
Where is the source of that quote? Sounds Biblical; I love it. Must have source!
