A joint Ethiopian-US team of palaeontologists announced on Saturday they had discovered the world's oldest biped skeleton to be unearthed so far, dating it to between 3.8 and four million years old.

"This is the world's oldest biped," Bruce Latimer, director of the natural history museum in Cleveland, Ohio, told a news conference in the Ethiopian capital, adding that "it will revolutionise the way we see human evolution".

The bones were found three weeks ago in Ethiopia's Afar region, at a site some 60 kilometres from Hadar where Lucy, one of the first hominids, was discovered in 1974. Researchers at the site in northeast Ethiopia have in all unearthed 12 hominid fossils, of which parts of one skeleton were discovered.

I get younger earther all the time.

Aha! This is a clue that you're progressing through middle age. A good time to make sure you're getting extra vitamin E. It's supposed to help keep your arteries elastic. My mom disagrees.

That is nonsense. I am a Christian and believe in God. I also know good science when I see it.

By implying that anyone that does not agree with your simplistic take on Scripture is less a Christian than you or an atheist is just plain ridiculous.

The arrogance of you people is amazing.

I am a Christian and know that evolution is a fact. What is your problem?

You will never convince me that misinterpreters of the Bible are really Christian.

...and all the articles describe classic experiments in adaptive evolution. what is it you think evolution is, other than modification and differential reproduction?

Complexity!

If you think I'm a ranter, what do you think of the name calling intolerant darwin zealots who want to put christians in zoos and teach their children atheism?

Whose thought is that, and what do you mean by putting Christians in zoos?

Sorry, I don't see any reference to putting Christians in zoos. What is this about?

My "limited" God? Our vast universe is as a small walnut held in his hand.....my God has no limits!

"If it is that difficult for you to lay it out fairly simply in a way that even a moron like me can understand, then can you be sure that I am the one who is confused?"

If you need a basic biology course there are a number of good sites on the web you can go to.

First, go to Patrick Henry's list of sites.

If you don't understand that man is in the ape family under biological classification, I can't offer you much help. But to argue a case based on uniformed opinion is rather frustrating for us scientists who have seen the same stuff for years by religious zealots with no knowledge of either science or religion.

You are limiting God if you think He has to create the world using your limited understanding of a simplistic read on Scripture.

He states his case well, but then he demeans it by saying anyone that doesn't agree with this is a fool and all other sorts of names.

If one is trying to argue from a scientifically objective point of view, you don't stoop to ad hominem attacks. They betray one's own biases and uncertainty as to ones own position!

But it is ok for a purported Christian to lie? I think you have problems with moral relativism.

I'm not very good at deciphering one word responses.

Intelligent Design is about explaining the complexity of life's information and structures that Darwinian evolution has not and cannot prove.

This is why we have something to discuss, after all. If there wasn't legitimate problems with TOE none of us would be wasting our time on these threads.
