DELAND -- A 30-year-old Sanford man died Sunday night after being tasered during an altercation with police here.
DeLand Police Chief Ed Overman said the man, whose name had not yet been released this afternoon, was considered a burglar suspect and he fled when approached by police in the downtown area. The man jumped onto the second-story awning of a building and later broke a window with his bare hands to enter.
Overman said two officers followed him inside where a struggle ensued and the man had to be tasered at least three times, once by using close contact producing a stun gun effect.
After the officers gained control, the man said he had been using cocaine and had AIDS.
The man continued to struggle in the ambulance that was called to treat the wounds and cuts to his hands. Overman said the man lost consciousness and died on the way to the hospital.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
Shocking.
zap...........
okay so let me get this straight. cocaine, AIDS, and lacerations, yet the headline suggests he died from the taser?
What's really shocking is the PC police wanted the cops to switch to tasers; bullets were "inhumane". And yet they do away with Ol Sparky. Maybe they will bring back real guns and firing squads after a few of these.
Ya gotta consider the source; NJ Online makes CBS look like Rush Limbaugh.
Sanford man dies after getting AIDS, doing cocaine, evading police, climbing onto second-story awnings and breaking windows with his bare hands.
That's actually probably a more accurate descriptor of what led to his death.
I am shocked........er, rather he was shocked.......
Reminds me of the Cartman Christmas tune where he gets zapped everytime he messes up the song.
Congressman Billybob
I think you mean Barney. Opie was Andy's young son and would hardly have been helping in police matters. Besides, he called him "Pa" not "Andy." :-)
I wonder if the ambulance attendant defibrillator'd the hell out of the guy...
Is someone expecting us to feel sorry for this criminal, who died while in the act of committing a crime and resisting arrest? Well -- boo, hoo!
His heart gave out from the coke and extended effort, I'd guess.
I agee and what about, dont' do the crime if you don't want to get tazered?

__________
I dunna 'bout that. It's not singable and it doesn't rhyme. I keep telling people, songwriting is hard work!
He shouldn't have resisted arrest in the first place.
To the tune of My Darlin Clementine:
Oh my Barney,
Oh my Barney,
Had a Jail and couldn't lock it,
Has one bullet for his pistol,
Has to keep it in his pocket.
I'm thinking that the democrats have lost yet another ardent supporter. With this guy's death, the dems may have lost 5 to 10 votes in the next election.
