Is it just me, or do we seem to be having a rash of earthquakes recently?

You posted a 5.3 earthquake, come on!
There are about 800 quakes between 5.0 and 5.9 every year.
Don't post them all!

It seems as though there is a rash of earthquakes of 5.O & above striking from the Pacific Ring of Fire, to the Gaspé over on the coast of Oregon.
Between Taipei & Tokyo-Yokohama I am wondering which mega-metropolis will be severely effected next?
With events in Lebanon, Syria and Iran really accelerating, maybe there will also be a powerful wake up call in that general region as well.

For what it's worth, it seems that way to me, too.
Maybe I'm just paying more attention these days since the tsunami, but it sure seems like every time I turn around there's another report of an earthquake in some part of the world. And not just tremors, either, but fairly good sized ones.

Average # of quakes every year (expected):
8 & higher: 1
7 - 7.9: 18
6 - 6.9: 120
5 - 5.9: 800
4 - 4.9: 6,200
3 - 3.9: 49,000
Have we exceeded the norms? Haven't heard anything indicating so.

Okay, great, fine by me. I'm not a seismologist; just posted an honest opinion, admittedly anecdotal.
Sheesh...

Maybe I'm just paying more attention these days since the tsunami, but it sure seems like every time I turn around there's another report of an earthquake in some part of the world. And not just tremors, either, but fairly good sized ones. Part of it is better, more widespread instruments, and reporting. And better communications, too. And heightened awareness-- but it seemed to me in thinking back, that there were many more reports this year and in 2004 than previously.

"Is it just me, or do we seem to be having a rash of earthquakes recently?"No it isn't you. We're having rashes of earthquakes and lots of meteors are targeted at earth, and articles about Ray Charles being put on the $10 bill, and how Joe Lieberman is a Conservative.
It seems like a normal Monday, but there is something in the wind.

I'm still eating those damn MRE's I bought in '99. ;)We didn't take it too seriously- but did lay in some extra batteries and canned goods, just in case. I figured private businesses- which have to keep customers happy or loose them- would get it straightened out in time.

I even had stored 30 gallons of gas in the shed before I realized I had a good chance of blowing my self up.
Then it dawned on me that we still had pencils and paper.
The only question that remained was could anyone remember how to use them? ;)
