It must run in the family it's genetic.
Remember the "Read my lips, no more taxes" line delivered with political sincerity by the first President George Bush and famously ignored with the same sincerity?
Now his son, the president, has done the same thing.
The question is, when a president says it, is it a lie? You decide.
On Dec. 17, 2004, President George Bush signed the National Intelligence Reform Act. The law included the requirement that 10,000 Border Patrol agents would be added over five years that's 2,000 per year. In addition, the legislation also stipulated that 80 percent of those new agents were designated for our southern border.
Since the majority of the estimated 500,000-plus illegals get into this country every year from Mexico, it made sense. It showed that the president was serious in his stated intent to be concerned about the security of our borders.
Didn't it?
Well, hold on. When it came time to put money for the new agents in the 2006 budget, he cut and ran, coming up with money for only 210 agents. Period. (210?)
What happened to the promised 2,000 a year for five years? Don't know. Maybe he lied, or whatever you want to call it.
But he sounded so sincere. Yeah, it must be genetic.
It's all about illegal aliens and for American citizens whose lives, businesses, properties and safety are directly threatened by the continual invasion of this country by illegals from all over the world what the president did isn't just politics.
For them, he's a liar, having said one thing and done another. For them, what he's done betrays of the sanctity of our country, the security of our borders and the value of our citizenship. For them, it adds up to a sellout of our country.
But why, George, why?
President Bush pays lip service to concerns about illegal immigration but that's belied by what he stated clearly in his second inaugural address. He called our immigration system:
"... outdated unsuited to the needs of our economy and to the values of our country. We should not be content with laws that punish hard-working people who want only to provide for their families, and deny businesses willing workers, and invite chaos at our border."
Let's see ... our values mean "come on in, everybody." Securing borders is "punishment," but since when is following the law for orderly immigration considered punishment for lawbreakers? Immigration laws deny businesses their employees and create border "chaos."
What a farce. It sounds as though he thinks eliminating the border would solve everything. Uh-oh. That's too close for comfort.
The law states that anyone who gets into or stays in this country without following proper immigration procedure commits a felony.
Period. End of story.
It is also illegal for American businesses to hire illegals.
Period. End of that story.
Here's some reality.
Estimates are there are anywhere from 8 to 12 million illegals in this country now, more every day. Most just cross the Mexican border, although there are growing numbers from Canada, due primarily to that country's easy acceptance of foreigners, legal and otherwise.
Estimates are that the cost of illegals in this country to the economy and each American citizen is more than $70 billion year. It's more than doubled in eight years and the reason is clear. We've essentially put out the welcome mat. Too many politicians sell out to lobbyists and are more concerned with covering their political back and welcoming the votes of illegals. Yes, they do vote.
The border is porous. Thousands cross every day. There isn't enough manpower or equipment to handle it. If illegals are picked up, there's nowhere to keep them existing detention facilities are full. Illegal families are often kept in local hotels at taxpayer expense, of course.
In some cases, Mexican illegals are flown back to their country, where they just turn around and cross the border again. Illegals from other countries (called "OTMs," meaning "other than Mexico") are often checked out to whatever extent is possible (which isn't much) and just released to go how shall I say it anywhere they want!
According to the Center for Immigration Studies, some of the largest costs to Americans are: federal school aid ($1.4 billion); food programs including food stamps, WIC, free school lunches ($1.9 billion); medical treatment for the uninsured ($2.2 billion); emergency room health care, Medicaid ($2.5 billion); and federal prison and court systems ($1.6 billion). Every year!
Add the costs to states and municipalities for schools, hospitals, clinics, welfare, housing, job benefits, police, court and jail expenses and legal protection equal to that of citizens and you've got a nice pot of money spent on people who are here illegally. Not bad for lawbreakers.
The next time the feds, your state, county or city tells you there isn't enough money for needed services for you or, you're asked to vote on bond issues, parcel taxes or increased taxes or fees to fill budget gaps, think about all the billions spent on people who simply by being here are felons. Those dollars would sure pay a lot of teacher's salaries or build roads.
Worse, many states want illegals to have drivers licenses which would give them legal ID to get even more benefits. Colleges waive tuition for illegals Arkansas is even considering scholarships for them.
New Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, in outlining his goals, plans to step up investigations of human trafficking, expressing concern that "smuggled" aliens are the usual victims. He said nothing about enforcing borders and keeping illegals out.
People who speak out against illegals are automatically slammed as "racists." As though that ends the story. It doesn't. More next week.
(Denny Crane: "Sometimes you can only look for answers from God and failing that... and Fox News".)
Move along folks........nothing to see here!
Period. End of story.
"The borders are secure. The borders are secure. Your government has everything under control. Ignore those guys with turbans and RPGs! They're only here to take jobs American's don't want. Move along. Move along. Everything is good. All is under control. Just shut your little mouths and pay your taxes. We are in control and we have your best interests in mind. Ignore that little man behind the curtain!"
That's strange. Usually by now some apologist for illegal immigration would have shown up to throw around accusations of racism. There must be a really exciting thread happening elsewhere.
BUMP!
Ah. Apologist noted. All is normal in the world again.
Well I think it's intersting that the dems have so suddenly taken an interest in sealing our border when the Clintons were instructing illegal aliens how to vote illegally.
How much would you like to spend securing our borders?....It is not enough
Naw, the illegal alien apologists are those who wail for the status quo, which is chaos on the border.
Must be taking a break from defending Islamonut enemies of America on another thread.
Would you solve the problem by having illegal aliens form orderly lines and walk unchaotically into the US? The problem isn't the chaos---it's the unending, unchecked immigration.
IMO, what the President has done is he's made the decision that he has enough on his plate for his four years and he left the mess for an upcoming President to handle.
Normally I would go ape about this, but I don't because the man is handling a war, our safety and actual survival as a nation.
Unfortunately at the state level, we are bleeding to death in cost, the increase in crime from illegals is about 50% as a third of the prison population are illegals.
Our educational system has gone to hell because our citizens can't get an education in a class where you have kids who at 12 had never been in a school before in their country or ours.
I in particular feel the frustration of MY STATE over this in what I hear from regular people and I fear this flashing out into violence at illegals.
I think we this year could see the inner city gangs start to go out them, then some extremist near the borders, and then all hell brakes loose from both sides.
I don't want to see that happen, but I see how things are going and I fear we will see action by the criminal and stupid.
I know the President would like to let this slide by during his tenure, but I fear it is a greater crisis than he thinks.
