How very well put. Murder is murder for whatever reason. We should not have the legal system furthering murder.
It seems that Terri has a VERY strong will to live...and besides, shouldn't it be Terri's parents to decide what happens? she is THEIR daughter! that fruitcake of a husband shouldn't have anything to do with it at all.
What a beautiful statement. It cuts so clearly and cleanly to the core of the matter. It expresses in such simple terms the very feelings that all of us have tried to express so often in our own clumsy way. Mr. Williams has touched on the very heartbeat of the situation and summed it up in a very human way. Should be read by all...

"To deny Terris parents the chance to care for her on the basis that her husband no longer has a use for her should not be a debate, it should be a crime
"
I agree 100%. How very sad this is for all who love Terri. We would not be debating this and Terri would be taken care of by her wonderful loving parents if it was not for her evil husband. I say string him up and hang the bastard. What a joke he is and I take comfort in knowing that some day he will be held accountable in front of God for his actions.
Thank you for posting this, Charlite, and thanks for the ping, tertiary!
The opinion still stinks and is denying Terri basic human rights.
" Unable to take nourishment orally, is this the factor for deciding who should or should not live now? "
Terri cannot get food to her stomach without assistance-like tens of thousands of stroke patients and those with spinal cord injuries-like the late Christopher Reeve.
Why even infants need help getting food to their stomachs.
The only difference is that the rest of the nourishment impaired have family members who are trying to help them, not snuff them.
Thank you for the excellent article. It sounds like the person really checked things out.
While reading it, I wasn't sure which way he'd go and finally it became clear, he supports Terri living her life.
Yippy another thinking person who knows truth when he sees it.
Bump. I am in process of making and htmlizing a new action post and was inspired by this new thread. I will share it soon.
Thank you!
Updated Action / Contact list re: averting a March 18, 2005 1PM Death Sentence for Theresa Maria Schiavo, getting her out of the hands of those trying to murder her, getting her back on the road to her recovery through rehabilitation and therapy and most importantly under the guardianship and care of those who truly love her

This is the nub of the larger issue in this case, and it's why it is taking so long to resolve.
When your father, or my grandmother, is unable to eat and they ask your permission for a feeding tube, you may give it. After your vulnerable, weak, and uncomprehending relative has pulled out the tube for the fifth time, because it is uncomfortable, because the restraints don't work, or for no apparant reason, after they call you for help holding grandma down because she fights like a tigress to keep that damned tube away, you might, you just might, ask, "do we have to put the tube back?"
THAT'S NOT MURDER. Any resolution of the Terri Schiavo case that criminalizes leaving well enough alone in people who are at the end of their travail in this world will never, never work.
Now, I recognize that this case is different, for many reasons-her age, her actual condition, her "husband" and his motives, etc.
It should be possible to feed Terri Schiavo without making feeding tubes themselves a mandatory intervention.
Beautifully written and right on the mark! Thanks for posting this.

Sounds to me like a very common sense type of analysis.
Too bad when you become a Judge all of your brains fall out.
