The brother of civil rights icon Medgar Evers is calling on Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean to resign for suggesting that minorities generally work in professions like maids and bellboys.
Speaking at Mississippi's Jackson State University College last week, Charles Evers said: "The Democratic Party [should] do the same thing to Dean that Republicans and other Democrats did to Senator Lott. Ask him to step down, because he's the wrong man for the position." Evers was reacting to Dean's comments last month to the Congressional Black Caucus, where he joked: "You think the Republican National Committee could get this many people of color in a single room? Only if they had hotel staff in here."
Evers, a member of the Mississippi Republican Executive Committee, elaborated on his call for Dean's resignation on Thursday.
"As a black man, I resent anyone who says anything about us as a race," he told Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes." "When are we going to learn to become Americans? When are we going to learn to respect Republicans and Democrats as human beings and not as black or white?"
Evers' brother Medgar became the civil rights movement's first martyr after he was assassinated in 1963 while working as the NAACP's first field coordinator in Mississippi.
Indeed. ping
>>>uh duh, calling Condi Rice, Doctor Rice as Sec of State is a fine example of GOP progressive politics.>>>
I know that the GOP is the most racially progressive party, YOU know the GOP is the most racially progressive party, but I was only saying what DEAN was implying. It's his message that is the problem. I'm just glad the guy has 'footinmouth syndrome'.
He makes a very good point
Though I doubt the Dems will ever understand it
Please oh Please
Don't take away our toy
We Loooove You Howie!
They are hoping that Dean can shake them down for money, and motivate them to work, in the 06 cycle.
It could happen!
What the 'Rats are soon going to find out is that the leftist nutjobs only give money when they get results. Even Soros has expressed dissatisfaction with how ineffective his money has been in buying elections.
Just like they used Dean to re-invent Kerry, the closer we get to '08, the more you will see and hear from him with Hillary "moderately" nodding in the background.
Charles Evers ping!
I saw him on H&C, and he was terrific!
Everytime I fly into Jackson/Evers
International Airport, I consider the
"Evers" to be Charles. ;o)
I'm glad folks are holding his feet to the fire.
The liberal elite can only sustain themselves by perpetuating permanent second-class status to everybody else -- that they are the self-anointed spokespersons for.
Liberal elitists are not difficult to figure out:
They have such an overwhelming need to feel superior to everybody else -- because they have such an overwhelming sense of inferiority that drives them.
Therefore, they are not only defenders of the status quo, they are the most status-conscious of all people, relentlessly arguing to prove they are smarter than everyone/anyone else. They have this inordinate fascination with power, celebrity and fame; otherwise, they feel like nobodies -- and so they are attracted to the media, in the hopes of becoming somebody worthwhile. Sometimes it is agonizing to watch them deconstruct so publicly.
I tell you - Dean is a Republican plant!

"I'm glad folks are holding his feet to the fire."
Yes, ma'am...me, too.
BTW, welcome to the MS ping list.
We're mighty happy to have you join us. ;o)
He is a gift that keeps on giving, thoughtless gaffe after thoughtless gaffe. New England bias is so candid, so overt. Did Howard Dean ever know any black people, like we do down South?
I hope they keep the pressure on!
Howie is a fool. Delighted that Medgar Evers called him on that insult. The black voter is finally realizing they've been taken for a ride by the dems for a very long time.
Nicely put!
