The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

WASHINGTON - Prompted by new intelligence indicating Osama bin Laden reached out to the most feared terrorist in Iraq, President Bush charged Thursday that "al-Qaida still hopes to attack us on our own soil."

"Recently, we learned that Osama bin Laden has urged the terrorist Zarqawi to form a group to conduct attacks outside Iraq, including here in the United States," Bush said at the swearing-in of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.

The president vowed, "We're working every day and night to dismantle (bin Laden's) network and to bring him to justice."

LETTER SNIPPET: "Dear Family and Friends,

"Everyone here is sket, coz last time they chaya'd us all." This little sentence said to me by a local shop worker, says it all for the atmosphere in Marondera just 26 days before parliamentary elections. Everyone in the town is scared because we are all waiting for the beatings, stonings and burnings that have characterized every single election here in the last five years.

Our town is full to bursting with strangers, luxury cars, vehicles with no number plates and people with pockets full of money. There are burly youths swaggering four abreast on the main roads, men in dark glasses sitting in the sun just watching and every day literally hundreds of people queuing outside the passport offices.

The atmosphere in the town is extremely tense. Most days I have to go past the house which was petrol bombed in the last elections; the house that I watched burn for hours through the night but which the fire brigade said they could not come and attend to.

Every week I see friends, both black and white, men and women, who have been beaten and tortured in the last five years, lost their homes, possessions and jobs and had to literally run for their lives. None of us have seen justice done, yet, and the memories are still fresh."

Executive Order: Amendment to E.O. 13295 Relating to Certain Influenza Viruses and Quarantinable Communicable Diseases


By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including section 361(b) of the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S.C. 264(b)), it is hereby ordered as follows:

Section 1. Based upon the recommendation of the Secretary of Health and Human Services, in consultation with the Surgeon General, and for the purpose set forth in section 1 of Executive Order 13295 of April 4, 2003, section 1 of such order is amended by adding at the end thereof the following new subsection:

"(c) Influenza caused by novel or reemergent influenza viruses that are causing, or have the potential to cause, a pandemic.".

Sec. 2. This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, entities, officers, employees or agents, or any other person.

MNF-I REPELS ATTACK ON CAMP ABU GHRAIB

BAGHDAD - Iraq – Multi National Force-Iraq repelled an attack by 40-60 insurgents on Forward Operating Base Abu Ghraib April 2 at approximately 7 p.m.

Two vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices were followed by rocket-propelled grenades, small arms fire and 20 rounds of indirect fire.

The assault by the Anti-Iraqi Forces failed, and the FOB is secured and locked down.

Approximately eighteen U.S. service members have been reported wounded.

Twelve detainees were wounded. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "A Perth unit block has been ripped apart by a gas explosion so strong it shattered windows and blew doors off other buildings within a 50-metre radius.



Two people have been taken to hospital, and their conditions were unknown, said a spokesman for Western Australia's Fire and Emergency Services Authority.

The blast had all but destroyed the block of eight units in Raymond Street at suburban Yokine about 6.25am (WST) on Sunday, he said.



"It's like a war zone. It's really quite incredible," the spokesman said."
