Under political pressure and with the growing recognition of North Carolina as an easy place for illegal immigrants to secure identification documents, the Governor and Division of Motor Vehicles have acted but without results.
We must act, Berger said. It is important for us to send a clear message that the State of North Carolina will not be your accomplice if you are in the country illegally."

Makes a mockery of the North Carolina Senate DemoRat's watered-down bill, that says Drivers License Security, but actually makes the situation worse.

Senate Republican Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) has introduced Senate Bill 419, a bill to improve Drivers License integrity in North Carolina, in anticipation of federal requirements requiring real proof of American citizenship or legal residency for a state issued driving permit to be recognized as a valid identification document. How good of the Republican party in this state to bow to federal pressure even before the pressure is there. Of course a state that now considers Elizabeth Dole as a conservative, I wouldn't expect any less.
