"It is easier to forgive a curse than a betrayal. Santorum betrayed the base, it has a price."

What does this mean?
Am I forgetting something or was there a primary election ?
I'm pretty up to task on PA politics and I'd never heard of Tummey before he ran against Specter.
People had a chance to make up there mind and they did.
I'm not sure what part of the base you're from?

Yes.

That price is the loss of a conservative Republican in a Dem led state. That loss is the potential to make Penn a swing state in Presidential elections.

Not supporting Santorum is no better than supporting Spectre. You'll be equally wrong.

I like Santorum too, but I think Mark has a valid point; Daschle paid for his miscalculations and I'm afraid Rick will too. I hope not, but I'm afraid that will be the case - and I'm sure Specter doesn't feel that he owes anyone, including Santorum, anything.

We missed an opportunity to put a genuine conservative into the Senate in place of Specter, but W and Santorum endorsed Specter as a pro-forma, [one-way] "party unity" move, which put him over the top. There's no doubt in my mind; I live in PA and I follow the politics here very closely. I was sick that we came so close and lost. I just hope the President pulls out all the stops to keep Santorum in.

That's all is was "a chance".

Tummey wasn't well known statewide.

Many of us couldn't take a chance on giving up the seat to the dems.

In hindsight I would have voted for Tummey but we don't have the luxury of hindsight and neither does Rick.

You're equating Rick endorsing a sitting Republican Senator with undermining the President's war effort???

Maybe we don't have a chance?

Re: "What does this mean?"

It is a quote from the Bible, one of the books on Wisdom. Speaking about friendship it points out a friend will forgive you if you cuss him out but not a stab in the back.

My state affiliation is only material in matters of who gets to vote but your point is monumentally irrelevant on a matter of free speech. People all over the country get involved in elections involving Congress (much more involved than a few comments on the internet). Pundits comment in Washington and NYC on events on PA and Virginia and elsewhere. You got a problem with that!!

Re: "I'd never heard of Tummey before he ran against Specter."

Sorry I can't help you with that little problem. I myself heard about him years ago. It seems he entered the national scene back in the 80's during Reagan. Like I said I can't help you if you never heard about him.

Re: "I'm not sure what part of the base you're from?"

Prolife and pro rule of law base.

Well did you ever consider Santorum and Specter's friendship?

And I don't think you can prove that Tummey was on the national scene in the 80's but I'll check.

Santorum might have to actually move back to Pennsylvania to fight for his seat.

"Prolife and pro rule of law base."

Well if you can point out one Senator who is a better advocate for the Pro-Life cause, I'd like to see them?

For your information Pat Toomey was first elected to congress in 1999.
Before that he was in the restaurant business.
Since you say he came on the national scene in the 80' perhaps you ate one of his cheeseburgers?

Re: "Not supporting Santorum is no better than supporting Spectre. You'll be equally wrong."

I disagree with the supposition. One can make a "political calculation" not to support and fight again another day. I like Santorum and if I lived in PA I would most likely vote for him, but that does not change reality. PA is a democratic leaning state. Casey is prolife. Not all prolifers are Republican many are Democrats, stupid prolifers but go figure. Jews vote democrat and so do blacks but the DNC is poison to them but they just keep drinking the Kool-Aide. Some prolifers are the same and will vote Democrat first chance their conscious allows.

Do I like it, no but there are a lot of people in PA right now that are mad and Rick made them so. Some will remember. Now the question for the near future is will the GOP wake up in time for 06.

So far it doesn't look hopeful.

Well whenever it was I knew of him and his rep long before this election and was very pleased he was running against Arlin. I do not follow PA politics but I heard of Tummey some time ago before Clintoon.

You must have eaten in one of his restaurants because he comes from a rural area of PA and if I never heard of him lot's Pennsylvanians never heard of him.

And to tell you the truth we couldn't take a chance on voting for him. We just didn't know him that well. In hindsight, I would have voted for him but again I don't have that luxury.
Specter won fair and square.
The choice this election will be between a conservative and a communist.

Re: "Well did you ever consider Santorum and Specter's friendship?"

You are known by the company you keep.

If you lie down with dogs you are bound to get fleas.

Rick can get new friends and a whole lot better. He can be friends with whom he pleases but it is our friends who get us in the hot water. Rick will soon see how "friendly" Arlin will be now that it is time to return the favor.

Do you know all of your state's rural congressmen?
I didn't think so.
