Robert Casey Jr. Says He'll Run Against Santorum by KYW's Tony Romeo
Robert Casey Jr., being wooed by national Democrats to challenge incumbent Republican senator Rick Santorum for his US Senate seat from Pennsylvania, has decided to jump into the race.
Earlier this week, Governor Rendell was asked about the prospects for a fight over the Democratic nomination for US Senate:
I hope, in all cases, if we can avoid a Democratic primary, that would be a good result. But until anybody declares their intentions, its impossible. Im not going to pick up the phone and talk to other candidates until I hear that someone definitely wants to run.
After the governor made those remarks on Wednesday, former Pennsylvania treasurer (and former Republican) Barbara Hafer told the Associated Press she would run.
Then on Friday, when current treasurer Robert Casey Jr. also said he would run, Rendell did pick up the phone. Hafer has released a statement saying shell honor the governors wishes and stay out of the race.

Look you are just going to have to face the fact this old boy down South knew about Pat before you did. I knew about Toomey before he announced and was pleased he was running I also knew he was a better pick than Specter which you have only belatedly admitted.
I can see this hurts your pride but I can't help you with that either. So keep it up, I don't think it will heal if you keep scratching it but I can't help you there either.

Yeah you knew he worked for Papa Bush or Reagan.
Or maybe you're thinking about Pat Boone. He used to be on TV you know?

Not to worry, he can always get Arlen Specter to pull his fat from the fire.
To: Ramcat
I knew more about him than you did when it counted.
By the way did we ever thank you and your kind for the joyous return of Specter to the Senate and the wonderful way he endeared himself to his fellow Republicans on the issue of Judicial nominees.
I'm so sorry Ramcat how neglectful of us to fail telling you how much we appreciate your commitment to your state by keeping abreast of the candidates for public office. You and your kind in PA have done yourselves PROUD. Gee thanks.

It's unfortunate how Santorum let this happen to himself.

It'll be a hard race, but if Santorummanages to pull it out against a pro-life Dem..the hard left lunatic fringe of the dem party will go apes**t..it could split the party..

(The Dem party is as dead as the NHL..)

the choice last election was between a socialist (specter) and a conservative toomy. The republican party in pa made it's choice by backing specter. So then who really is to blame in the end?
To: Mo1
What do you think will happen if Lynn Swann runs against Fast Eddie. Do you think Philly would go for him?

so far anything santorum has warned about the left on the issue of marriage has been proven correct. He supports FMA does he not?
A democrat would have to support FMA to be viable.

Specter is a Republican Senator.
The president needs Republican Senators to pass his legislation and to approve his judicial nominees.
There were two elections (primary and general).
Specter won them both.
Stick your finger in your eye that's fine with me.

Here's a question for you rotty.
Why doesn't Toomey (that's how you spell his name by the way)run against Rick in the primary?
My contention is that Pat Toomey was an unknown entity in the last election. His now legendary conservative credentials are more myth than a matter of record.
This guy was a gin seller just a few years back.

and voting for specter being chairman promoted conservatism how?
To: rottweiller_inc
Check my posts.
I'm not a name caller.
Specter has done nothing this term (beside some blabber coming out of his office) to undermine the President.
I'd rather not have Specter in office but our cause hangs on the votes of a handful of RINOS.
Specter is just one of them.
But as Rick and the President said during the election, "On the important issues Arlen is with us".
Give him a chance. I didn't mean rotty to be disrespectful but short for your screen name.
