Border Patrol agents deliver baby in truck
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- A pregnant Mexican woman who got caught after crossing illegally into the United States gave birth in the back of a Border Patrol agent's vehicle.
The baby is an American citizen because she was born on U.S. soil. But her fate, and that of her mother, are still uncertain. The girl was born 2 1/2 months prematurely and weighed less than 2 pounds.
She was named Sarai Marisol in honor of Marisol Cantu, one of the agents who found her mother.
The woman told authorities she had crossed the border with a group led by a smuggler but was abandoned because she could not keep up. She had been walking for five or six days when she became exhausted, said Alejandro Lopez Bajo with the Mexican Consulate in Laredo.
She was in labor Sunday when three Border Patrol agents found her on the side of the road near the border city of Laredo. Minutes later, the agents delivered the tiny infant in the back of a Border Patrol sport utility vehicle.
"I've never seen anyone that far along in the brush," said Agent Jerry Doyal, a former hospital corpsman in the Navy who pinched the umbilical cord with his fingers.
The baby was at a Corpus Christi hospital with her mother.
The mother can either take her baby home or make a plea to remain in this country. U.S. immigration authorities sometimes go easier on mothers of infants.

Bill would deny U.S. citizenship to children of illegal immigrants
Welcome to America, another USA family is born..
How much do you think preemie care in a hospital is these days?
How ever much it is, for her it is free now that she is a US citizen.
I've read an excellent article on why the idea that "birth guarantees citizenship" isn't Constitutional. It was somewhere on FR.
Sheesh another anchor baby!
I wonder if the fact that she was in custody at the time matters.
"she can either take the baby and go home or apply for ...."
They should SEND HER and her child BACK to MEXICO, they should have a right to stay. Probably cost us $3,000 in Hospital bill, Social services probably already set her up for welfare for the child. Laws should be changed. should not be automatically granted citizenship. Anone found should be DRIVEN BACK, not processed here.
"this burglar can waddle across the border and have citizenship just handed to her offspring."
And everything else handed to HER.
"How ever much it is, for her it is free now that she is a US citizen."
Yes, you are correct, immediate free healthcare for breaking into this country. Curiously, if you are a tax paying citizen who finds yourself in a poor health situation and are forced to go on Social Security disability, because you are TOO sick to work, you will wait one to 5 years for approval by SSA. Once approved you must wait for 2 full years MORE before medicare kicks in. So you must be prepared to live on savings and no healthcare for as much as 7 years. How long could you make it while you were ill? Lots of applicants die first. If you doubt it look at some of the recent GAO reports on the dysfunction of the SSA. They are trying to extend full benefits to illegals, you know.
But, yes, for a foreigner it is free and IMMEDIATE.
If you can, catch Lou Dobbs tonight on this subject. He had a puerto rican human rigts blowhard on. Dobbs said, "CITIZENSHIP SHOULD BE CHERISHED IN THIS COUNTRY OR IT MEANS NOTHING"
You know, I feel for this woman I really do. She was just trying to seek a better life for her and her unborn child.
But pretty soon, we're not going to be able to take care of our own babies. This is costing us so much money, we don't have unlimited funds. And our border patrol agents are overwhelmed as it is.
Really, we need to send her back. We need to send her and her daughter back. This woman needs to get her papers and get processed, and after that she is WELCOME to come back.
Well damn! How come I had to pay so much for my babies?? And I am a taxpaying and health insured citizen?
I pay taxes, I am insured, why do I have to pay? whine/off

"Having been born in Mexico, my sons also have Mexican birth certificates. These birth certificates were issued to my wife and myself by a Mexican registrar. But since I was a foreigner, the registrar required me to show her my Mexican work permit in order to process the paperwork."
"I had to prove I was in Mexico legally for my son to have a birth certificate!"
"When my son was born (in Mexico) this process hit a hitch. My work permit was being renewed for the year, so it was temporarily out of my possession. The registrar would not issue the birth certificate until I had showed her my work permit. So it took us several more weeks to obtain it."
"Can you imagine what would happen in the United States if they refused a birth certificate to the child of an illegal alien?"
"The U.S. Constitution has been twisted to justify the automatic birth citizenship of children of illegal aliens."
"The Mexican constitution (Capitulo II, Articulo 30) actually stipulates that any baby born in Mexican territory, regardless of parentage, is Mexican. But apparently theyve found a way around thatrefusing to issue birth certificates if one or both parents is not in the country legally! How very clever!
Time to change the 14th amendment, yeah right... when pigs fly.
I remember hearing that Canada had a similar law on their books, but when the Hong Kong chinese were coming to Vancouver to have their anchor babies, they changed that law. Can anybody verify this? I'd love to have it for ammuniton for an argument with a liberal.
Ping!

This article shows exactly who the good guys and the bad guys are. Due to a lack of decent prenatal care, this baby probably won't survive, so I'll refrain from anchor baby remarks. However, if the child does survive, she should be deported along with the mother. Send Papa Fox the bill.
