NBC Universal is in talks to buy out Microsoft Corp.'s stake in MSNBC, the struggling news cable channel, according to a news report today. The New York Post, quoting unnamed sources, reported that the two companies are in advanced talks to close a deal that would put NBC Universal in full control of MSNBC, while Microsoft would still have access to some of NBC's content for online use.
A spokesman for NBC Universal, a unit of General Electric Co., declined to comment, as did a spokesman for Microsoft.
Microsoft and NBC founded MSNBC and its companion online news site in 1995 with a joint investment of US$400 million.
GE shares rose 9 cents to $35.69 in late morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange, while Microsoft shares fell 3 cents to $25.23 on the Nasdaq Stock Market.
How much are they planning on paying, a buck three eighty, that's about all it's worth.
To tell you the truth, I like MSNBC. I probably watch it as much as any other news channel. Naturallly I don't watch everything on MSNBC and I can't bear some of the people on there for more than a few seconds but I find it to be pretty middle of the road for the most part. At least they are willing to put on Imus which has got to be the most politically incorrect show in America. You have to give them credit for that.
What, do they enjoy losing money?
NBC would be better off selling their stake in MSNBC to Rupert Murdoch, so Murdoch can turn the network into "The Joke News Channel."
Murdoch doesnt need to buy them to turn them into the Joke Channel...they already are.
As bad as MSNBC is doing, I'm surprised NBC isn't suing them to remove the NBC.
They have the worst talent...This Melissa Rehberger is a sad competitor to Laurie Dhue..Rehberger looks like she has a growth on her back always sits crooked...come to think of it so does Brian Williams..hmmmm
They are pretty good on the breaking news things, I have to say.
Having Ron Reagan on is ruining the day time for me though.
I think $1.83 is a little much. You can get a soda and a bag of chips for that.
It will relaunch as iNBC.
That's about $2 million per viewer.
