AKRON, Ohio -- A Springfield Township mother broke down in tears as she was sentenced to 10 years in prison in connection with the death of her 13-month-old daughter. Vanessa McGlumphy, 25, and the baby's father made statements to the court Wednesday, NewsChannel5 reported.
McGlumphy, pleaded guilty last month to involuntary manslaughter and child endangering for not protecting her daughter.
The toddler died last October. She suffered a broken neck, a severed liver and 12 broken ribs. She also had been struck 40 times with a needle on the bottom of both feet and the side of her head, the prosecutor said. McGlumphy said that she thought her boyfriend, Daniel Duffield, 32, sacrificed her child because he is a different religion than she is and that they performed a ritual on the girl as a result of his belief. McGlumphy characterized Duffield as a "black pagan," the prosecutor said.
Duffield was found guilty Tuesday of involuntary manslaughter and murder in the death of the toddler.
He will be sentenced March 9. He faces 15 years to life in prison.
You put the snooker ball in the sock..Make a very nasty weapon..
I think the snooker ball goes in the sock....and the Saran Wrap is to bind them with.....I like it.
Put the ball in the sock, use it as a blackjack; wrap the perp in saran wrap to imobilize AND overheat them (sweat can't evaporate).
That's my guess,a nyway.
I get the 'Saran Wrap, a sock and a snooker ball', but what's with the 'six hours'?.
15 years to life???? That is all he gets??? This is one case that merits an eye-for-an-eye. What a beast!!!!

Does this make any kind of sense to anyone?
15 years to life for torturing an infant to death? What's WRONG with this picture??
Oh...Great! Another one of them religions of peace.
I like it too,,,I nominate we put Owl Eagle in charge of handing out punishment to perps.
10 years ? 10 years ? 10 years ? WTF!!!!!!!!!!
how did I know....
Mike
That sounds very strenuous. And in the wrong hands, it might be too merciful for child-sacrificing monsters. They need to die slow, being examples to other scum.
I would like to see both of them get the death penalty, but it will never happen.
Interesting that sacrificing one's children was part of the worship of Baal way back in Old Testament times. The more things change, the more they remain the same. I often say that I don't believe in evolution, but I do believe in devolution (the reverse.)
Why are they both not being executed?
Evil.

...Green shared a county jail cell with Duffield for about three weeks in early October. He said Duffield talked about the killing on Oct. 26, the day he was served with his indictment.
``He said, `Can I trust you?,' '' Green recalled. ``He said, `You're the coolest black guy I ever met.' My exact words were: `I'm a con; you can tell me anything.' ''
Green is black. Duffield is white.
``He kept asking me, `Can I trust you? Can I trust you? Can I trust you?' Then he said, point blank, and I quote, he said he shook this baby because he had a headache,'' Green said.
He went on to tell jurors that Duffield was home that morning with three young children after a night of partying and sex. Vanessa McGlumphy, Duffield's girlfriend and Jacqueline's mother, had gone out to fill a prescription for Jacqueline and buy crystal meth, Green said.
``He showed no remorse. He didn't cry. He didn't show any emotion at all,'' Green said. ``He looked like Satan to me.''... Green said Duffield also talked about his Wiccan faith, which some call witchcraft. Green said Duffield and McGlumphy were raising the girl as a Wiccan while raising her twin ``natural.''
He said Duffield talked about performing curses and rituals and ``weird stuff,'' including puncturing the child's skin. Police say the girl's feet and left cheek had more than 40 puncture wounds, some resembling Wiccan symbols.
McGlumphy, 25, last week pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter for not protecting her daughter. She will be sentenced after Duffield's trial.
Defense attorneys are trying to pin the death on her, characterizing her as a mentally weak woman unable to cope with twin babies. They are battling a timeline to put the child in McGlumphy's hands at the time of death.
County medical examiner Lisa Kohler testified that Jacqueline died instantly when a part of her neck was separated from her head while being twisted, shaken or hit against an object.
``Basically, the head became disconnected from the top of the neck,'' she said.
Kohler said it appears the girl, who weighed 19 pounds, was dead for hours, since her body temperature was 90 degrees when paramedics took her to Akron Children's Hospital. Prosecutors say McGlumphy was not home in the time it appears the girl died.
Kohler also said the puncture wounds occurred within hours of the child's death, as did a laceration to her liver. The doctor also listed many other injuries the girl suffered, including 45 bruises to the head and neck, 12 broken ribs and a broken ankle.
Emily Scott, a Children's Hospital emergency doctor who saw the girl, said abuse was obvious.
``My initial impression was this baby was the victim of massive trauma,'' she said. ``She was tortured.''
same reason people need plastic sheets at a Gallagher concert...
...and a needle...
She also had been struck 40 times with a needle on the bottom of both feet and the side of her head...
I don't know if six hours would be long enough.
