He was awarded two Bronze Stars.

Good idea. He was a hero.

I snuck into the theater to see the EXORCIST when I was 12 years old - I couldn't sleep for 3 nights.

...exorcism that took place in 1949

I wonder what ever happened to little Johnny Kerry anyway?

Priests who perform exorcisms have to be the bravest men in the world!
To battle the devil himself, head on, must take enormous courage!

God bless Father Halloran.

Kelly

Dearest Lord Jesus, accept the soul of your servant Fr. Halloran into your heavenly Kingdom.

And send us many more priests like him!

Two bronze stars and his name written in the Book of Life. God bless you exorcising priest. There is a great new book out on the subject by M. Scott Peck, who wrote "The Road Less Traveled", and "The People of the Lie", dealing with evil folks he faced in his psyciatric practice. But his new book is a fascinating read:"Glimpses of the Devil: A Psychatrist' Personal Accounts of Possession, Exorcism, and Redemption." He is one shrink that has discovered that only people can be evil, but that there is a devil who will try to destroy you.

A lot of people don't realize that before an exorcism is to be attempted, both physical and psychological faults are ruled out.

RIP, Father Halloran. RIP, Veteran.

"was the last living Jesuit to be involved in an exorcism that took place in 1949"

Poorly written.

(1) Does this mean the last exorcism done was in 1949?

(2) Or that he was the last Jesuit to do so?

(3) Does this mean there are no Jesuits who either want to or are capable of performing exorcisms?

Exorcist - the only movie that ever really messed me up. Tried to get to the TV twice to turn it off (10 yrs old), but had to run back to the couch and cover my head.

There is a book titled "Possessed" that chronicles the original account.

It is not for the faint hearted, or the spiritually lost.

The boys parents were not Catholic, so before the exorcism the boy had to convert and receive religious instruction.

"I command you, whoever you are, unclean spirit, and all your associates, obessing this friend o God,
that by the mysteries of the Incarnation,Passion, ressurrection and Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ,
by the mission of the Holy Spirit and by the coming of the same Master of Judgement, give me your name, the day and hour of your exit, together with some sign,
and even though i am an unworthy minister of God, I command thee to obey in all these things nor ever again in any matter to offend this creature of God, or those who are here or any of their possessions....
"Depart therefore, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, give place to the Holy Spirit through the sign of the Holy Cross of Jesus Christ
our Lord who with the father and the same Holy Spirit lives and reigns now and forever, Amen."

Thank you for your respect. IMHO Fr. Halloran was a living embodiment of St. Michael the Archangel. He is well worthy of the peace he will have in Heaven.

"Father Halloran gained a measure of renown as a paratrooping chaplain during the Vietnam War. At 48, he was then the oldest airborne chaplain at the time."

48 year old persons who jump out of planes into war zones are ENTITLED to a measure of renown.

Perhaps after that exorcisim Viet Nam seemed low key.

Quite a life. Rest in Peace, Father.
