Soderberg: Well, there's still Iran and North Korea, don't forget. There's hope for the rest of us.

Yes, whats bad for America is good for the democrats.

Soderberg: There's always hope that this might not work.

What an appalling admission! But thanks for sharing Ms. Soderberg.

We will remember that line.

i thought his "america political guide" book, whatever it was
called, was a (very) weak copy of a decidely NON-political Monty Python book. stewart gave himself away with the punches he pulling in discussing Kerry and his DU style attacks on Bush in the appendix. the sections on foreign countries in his book were both insipid and sophmoric...

"Uh, OK, my daddy hits me, but look how tough I'm getting." You know what I mean?"

Seems to be a Dennis Miller type conversion going on but his thick skull is fighting it.

There are plenty of people on this board, like myself, who used to be fairly liberal. Stewart is at that uncomfortable stage where your worldview is shaken and you walk around in a funk for a while - maybe even years - until you grow so weary of going through the motions of your old beliefs and admit to yourself you were wrong. Then you think about WHY you wouldn't admit it, and you get ticked off at yourself for being manipulated. Then you forgive yourself, and are at peace once again.

Jon Steward and Dennis Miller...two sides of a coin.

Miller the smart side...Stewart the stupid side.

This process of evolution that you so aptly described has to be more difficult when you are a public figure.

It takes courage and humility, but liberalism can be conquered. Unfortunately, people who are well known tend to lack the humility it takes to realize you were wrong and the people you thought were your ideological enemies were right. And to come out and admit it.

This gives me an idea. Maybe we should start pushing away those people who once opposed us, but now want to join our side. The best way to make a liberal want something is refuse to give it to them. I always get a strange reaction out of my liberal friends when I tell them to stay a left-winger because conservatism isn't for them or they couldn't possibly understand it. It's very similar to that fat ugly girl (Shannon Falkner?) who sued to be admitted to the Citadel. She only wanted to attend because she was told she couldn't. After she sued and won the right to attend, she actually lasted less than a week in school. I say we don't even let them close to the door. THIS CLUB IS NOT ACCEPTING NEW MEMBERS

Last night Miller said "Jon Stewart told me 'Maybe I was wrong about Bush'". There's hope.

Sure there's hope now...all the thick liberals will be on board now that the War on Terror is obviously a success. Miller is a good man...in the trenches when it was not popular.

"Uh, OK, my daddy hits me, but look how tough I'm getting." You know what I mean?

Okay John, this one goes out to you buddy!

COMFORTABLY NUMB

Hello.
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone home?

Come on, now.
I hear you’re feeling down.
Well I can ease your pain,
Get you on your feet again.

Relax.
I need some information first.
Just the basic facts:
Can you show me where it hurts?

There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship’s smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can’t hear what you’re sayin’.
When I was a child I had a fever.
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I got that feeling once again.
I can’t explain, you would not understand.
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.

Ok.
Just a little pinprick. [ping]
There’ll be no more --aaaaaahhhhh!
But you may feel a little sick.

Can you stand up?
I do believe it’s working. good.
That’ll keep you going for the show.
Come on it’s time to go.

There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship’s smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can’t hear what you’re sayin’.
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone.
I cannot put my finger on it now.
The child is grown, the dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.

""Stewart: He's gonna be a great--pretty soon, Republicans are gonna be like, "Reagan was nothing compared to this guy." Like, my kid's gonna go to a high school named after him, I just know it.

Soderberg: Well, there's still Iran and North Korea, don't forget. There's hope for the rest of us.""

Sums up the Dems and there dilemna perfectly. They have their fingers crossed, hoping for failure of any of these attempts at democracy. Their only hope is that something terrible happens with N Korea. They should be ashamed of themselves.
