Iran blocks UN nuclear inspections

Iran blocks UN nuclear inspections

Iran has refused to let UN nuclear inspectors follow up on a first visit to the Parchin military facility, where Washington charges Tehran is simulating testing of atomic weapons, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has said.

Iran has also refused to answer IAEA questions about the Lavizan site in Tehran where there was suspicion of nuclear activities, Pierre Goldschmidt, the agency's deputy director-general for safeguards, told a meeting in Vienna of the 35-nation IAEA board of governors.

Iran told the IAEA in a message, dated from Sunday, that "the expectation of the Safeguards Department in visiting specified zone and points in Parchin Complex are fulfilled and there is no justification for any additional visit," Mr Goldschmidt said, according to a text of his comments distributed to journalists.

IAEA inspectors want to return to the sprawling Parchin site, which they first visited in January, since they have only seen five out of what are a much larger number of buildings.

Mr Goldschmidt said that "out of the four areas identified by the agency to be of potential interest, the agency was permitted to select one area," according to a copy of his comments distributed to the press.

"The agency was requested to minimise the number of buildings to be visited in that area and selected five buildings," he said.

Concerning Lavizan, where the site has been completely razed by the Iranians, the Iranians refused to answer IAEA questions about "dual-use material and equipment that could be useful in uranium enrichment and conversion activities."

The agency had asked to "discuss this matter in detail with two officials who had been involved in the procurement activities" of the Physics Research Centre located at the site from 1989-1998.

But in Sunday's note, Iran said the centre was "not involved in activities" to be declared under nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) safeguards and that Iran did not have to declare the dual-use items which "could be used in conventional activities."

Iran surely can't be hiding anything, we all know they are interested in nuclear energy for civilian purposes, surely they are. (/sarcasm)

Well, here we go again. Are they banking on the impotence and uselessness of the U.N. as Saddam did?

I sure hope so.  If I recall, it didn't work out so good for Saddam.

Are you calling Iran, Russia and the entire Left liars?  We must allow them their right to pursue peaceful nuke technology.

{/heavy sarcasm}

They probably have deluded themselves into believing their own propaganda, that Islam will rise up against the Evil Dogs Of The West and the Zionist Entity and will crush us all with the might of their scimitars and their covertly acquired Russian / German / French nuke equipment.

They will die without honor and those who don't will run home crying to their ugly mothers.

If we can't verify that they are not working on nuclear weapons, we have a big problem since they already have a delivery system.

Isn't this exactly the way NK was acting before they finally admitted to having a nuke?

This is the best news of the day. I really don’t want mullahs to give up this bomb thing of theirs. It’s a necessary ingredient for democratization recipe of Iran. At least it appears that way to keep US involved and engaged in mullahs termination.

Iran is preparing the bomb.

Anything to the contrary is willful blindness.
