Condi Tops Prez & Hil in New Poll
NY Daily News ^ | March 1, 2005 | KENNETH R. BAZINET

Since moving from the White House to the State Department, Condoleezza Rice's star appears to be rising faster than any Washington politico, including President Bush and New York Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Only the ailing Pope John Paul - with a whopping 78% favorability rating - got higher marks than the secretary of state in a new Gallup poll released yesterday.

"There's been less controversy lately than last year when Condi was testifying in Congress, and now she's in a much more prominent position," said Marist College pollster Lee Miringoff. "As secretary of state you add legitimacy to your power."

Rice, who already is being urged to run for President in 2008 by some, has a 59% favorability rating in the poll, while only 27% of respondents gave her an unfavorable score.

"When she was national security advisor, she looked like a staffer. Now she looks like someone running an important department," Miringoff added.

Bush trailed Rice with a 56% favorability rating, followed by Clinton, who's considered the Democratic presidential front-runner in four years, at 53%.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean lagged far behind the pack at 35%, and his numbers suggested he needs to raise his profile a bit. Some 14% of people polled said they had never heard of Dean, while another 18% had no opinion of him.

She is smart, black and a sweet set of gams! Unlike Hillary's kankles, Condi can wear those thigh high boots that I love! MEOW!

I approve of Condi as SoS, she's doing a fine job, but not as a candidate in 2008 since she is "pro-choice". Besides, she can't win a national election even if she's running against Hillary.

Care to elaborate on why a woman shouldn't run the whole shebang?

Two Bush's are enough, give other Republicans a chance.

This used to be a conservative forum.

That same thing was being said on FR more than 5 years ago.

Call me a revolutionary, but I believe in judging people as individuals and not as members of a particular gender/race/religion/whatever. Condi Rice is a strong leader and an intelligent person, and I think she'd make a good President. Her gender doesn't really have anything to do with it, except that maybe it would be a helpful counter to the Dims running Hitlery as their candidate.

BTW, the Bible did approve of, and even praise, several women in leadership roles.

Condi's smart as a whip, tough as nails, and competent. But we don't know too much about what her politics really are. I'll look forward to finding out; I'd love to support her.

Wouldn't it be great to elect the first black, female president?

Can you imagine how bad it would backfire on the Dems if they tied to throw as much negative crap at her as they did the President during the last campaign?

I am soooooo looking forward to that!

I hear ya. The Bush family has destroyed what R. Reagan began.

The east coast blue-bloods are becoming entrenched. We are a big spending party.

It makes me sad, too.

Don't forget its also okay to call them an Oreo. (though don't call them a Hydrox, that would just be rude).

I think any republican will be able to beat Hillary in 08. I am not that concerned.

But .. a good favorability rating is not an indicate of VOTES.

Just because people think she's doing a good job, that doesn't translate into people who would vote for her.
