Condi Tops Prez & Hil in New Poll
NY Daily News ^ | March 1, 2005 | KENNETH R. BAZINET

Posted on 03/01/2005 12:11:49 PM PST by West Coast Conservative

Since moving from the White House to the State Department, Condoleezza Rice's star appears to be rising faster than any Washington politico, including President Bush and New York Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Only the ailing Pope John Paul - with a whopping 78% favorability rating - got higher marks than the secretary of state in a new Gallup poll released yesterday.

"There's been less controversy lately than last year when Condi was testifying in Congress, and now she's in a much more prominent position," said Marist College pollster Lee Miringoff. "As secretary of state you add legitimacy to your power."

Rice, who already is being urged to run for President in 2008 by some, has a 59% favorability rating in the poll, while only 27% of respondents gave her an unfavorable score.

"When she was national security advisor, she looked like a staffer. Now she looks like someone running an important department," Miringoff added.

Bush trailed Rice with a 56% favorability rating, followed by Clinton, who's considered the Democratic presidential front-runner in four years, at 53%.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean lagged far behind the pack at 35%, and his numbers suggested he needs to raise his profile a bit. Some 14% of people polled said they had never heard of Dean, while another 18% had no opinion of him.

The most important role of any future president will be to conduct foreign policy, not to become a Santa Claus!!

Condi has spent almost her entire life learning, managing, advising------ not stealing power.

She is a thinker and achiever, not an opportunist and a manipulator.

And to think that this fine woman would express her love for freedom in a small note like that, despite what she endured as a child is indisputable testimony to her strength of character. At the end of this term, she will undoubtedly be recognized as one of the most qualified persons EVER to run for president, should she decide to do so. IMHO

There are all kinds of protection that wives get from their husband's, not just physical protection. I am not against a woman having a mind of her own, in fact I am a very strong willed person, but as a Christian, I find that when my Husband and I work as a team and follow Godly principles things tend to go much smoother. I believe that God has placed men in a leadership role and it is their responsibility to have the final say. I might add that this protection gives me a lot of freedom and keeps me out of a lot of trouble when I do as my husband asked.

What is your problem? What personal attack have I made on Condi? Stating a fact such as,"She has never run for elected office" is not an attack.

The sad fact of the matter is that Hillary is the most politically adroit Democrat, perhaps even more so than the Republicans also, out there. She is devious in ways you can't even dream of and I believe, no I know, that she will beat Condi. Let Condi run for Senate, such as against Diane Finestien first.

My problem with Dr. Rice is that she is untested in the political arena. She maybe brilliant, but when it comes to politics the Clinton's are the masters of the game.

Just calling it like I see it.

The Bible had several women in leadership roles due to the men falling short of their duties...

She is a piano playing neophyte in the world of politics and you wish to put her up against perhaps the smartest politician in the nation? Hillary would eat her for lunch.

That is personal. You misunderestimate Condi and misoverestimate the Wicked Witch!!

Like I said in 3 or 4 other posts - I am a staunch fan of Dr. Rice, but look at the elections record over the last many years. The last person to win a US general election to the Presidency without having been a Governor of a state or a Vice President first was Richard M. Nixon in 1968 He was a California Senator who had been defeated in the 1960 election by then-Senator John F. Kennedy.

Defeated Senators since then include: George McGovern (the forerunner of Howard Dean) Gary Hart(pence), Bob Dole, and John F. sKerry.

LBJ was sworn in following the assassination, served out Kennedy's term and then defeated Sen. Barry Goldwater in 1964. So there are some clear advantages to having been a Governor or served as a VP (like George HW Bush)! If you want to extend the principle to specify only southern/western govs, then toss in Michael Dukakis - the card carrying liberal former Massachusetts gov-geek.

Yes - I like Condi, but don't believe we should have a woman running the whole shebang. My wife believes the same way because she believes The Word of the Holy Bible

We would be electing a head-of-state, not a head pastor. The Bible says nothing about women as chief executives in civil government.

Exactly - the only places in the Bible that has women taking leadership roles is when the men have failed to do their duty in those areas. If we get to that point, the woman/women may very well perform capably, but it isn't as God inrended. For reference, go to Genesis and see what God had to say about women's place in the scheme of things when he chastised Eve for initiating the deed that got them kicked out of the Garden of Eden... He told Adam, that as the man, he shouldered the burden of responsibility, even though Eve was the primary agent, then He said that Man would hold sway over Woman because of her part...
