Man Tasered By Police In Salad Bar Dispute (Chuck E. Cheese)

AURORA, Colo. -- Aurora police are reviewing a weekend incident in which a man accused of stealing salad from a Chuck E. Cheese salad bar was hit with a stun gun twice by officers.

The incident began at 4:05 p.m. Sunday when officers were called to the restaurant at 145005 East Exposition on a report of a larceny in progress.

Police talked to the Chuck E. Cheese manager who told them that a customer had refused to show proof that he had paid for food. The manager said the man was seen "loading" his plate at the salad bar.

The officers confronted Danon Gale, 29, who was at the restaurant with his children, aged 3 and 7. Patrons said the popular kids pizza parlor was packed with children and families at the time.

According to police, Gale was asked to step outside to discuss the incident.

"According to witnesses (Gale) refused to cooperate with police and a struggle ensued," said Larry Martinez, a police spokesman. He said that Gale became argumentative and shoved one of the officers, a fact disputed by another patron.

"One of the officers kept poking the gentleman in the chest," Felicia Mayo told the Rocky Mountain News.

She was there with her 7-year-old son. She told the newspaper that Gale told the officer "You don't have to do that." She said Gale never put his hands on the officer who was confronting him

The argument escalated until Gale was shoved into the lap of Mayor's sister, who was sitting two booths away, holding a 10-month-old baby. That's when police pulled out a Taser stun gun to subdue him.

"They beat this man in front of all these kids then Tased him in my sister's lap," Mayo told the newspaper. "They had no regard for the effect this would have on the kids. This is Chuck E. Cheese, you know."

Gale's two children were "screaming and hollering and crying" as Gale was tasered with two times with the stun gun.

Police arrested Gale as his children and other customers watched. They took him outside, leaving his children inside the restaurant.

Gale was arrested for investigation of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and trespassing.

His two children were picked up by a relative.

The manager of the restaurant declined comment and Gale said he couldn't talk about it, after hiring an attorney.

How many witnesses (plural) agree with the story vs. the other patron. Sounds like there are more backing up the police story, than disagreeing with it.

One (named) witbness disagreeing.

Witnesses backing the police: less than one

Pushing a policeman is not the action of a responsible parent anyway.>>>

At least one of the patrons said that was not what happened.
The public outcry is against the police in this matter.

"Aurora police found themselves in the cross hairs of public criticism Monday after officers used a Taser stun gun to subdue a man accused of pilfering from a salad bar at a Chuck E. Cheese's pizzeria packed with families and young children."

Then why was this line:

"According to witnesses (Gale) refused to cooperate with police and a struggle ensued," said Larry Martinez, a police spokesman.

in the original article ?

"By refusing to walk outside, he effectively resisted arrest."

The facts given in the article do not support your conclusion. You are not under arrest until the cop says, "You are under arrest." Everything up until those words are uttered is merely an investigation. The guy was perfectly within his rights to refuse to take a walk outside.

"Besides, cops just don't shove people down in front of a crowd at Chuckie Cheese's."

It appears that this is exactly what happened. Maybe 10 years ago, they wouldn't have done this, but cops today seem to think that they can get away with anything, and the sad thing is, they usually do. And that's why we have little incidents like this at Chuck E. Cheese.

Because those were the words Larry Martinez, the police spokesman, used

It doesn't have to be the truth. He's just trying to make his claim of "a struggle ensued" sound more valid.

So, in other words, assault is fine as long as the cops are doing it?

So in other words, larceny against lawful property owners is okay as long as someone is determined to commit it, eh?

Was it a larceny? A civil matter? Or something that rises only to the status of a "persona non grata" list?

The latter is how it probably should have been handled. The cop was seen attempting to provoke the man. Probably wanted to try his new toy.

This is why giving your average donut muncher a torture tool is a Bad Idea.

According to you cops are a--holes?

Yes, most of them seem to be on a sick power trip.

Maybe all police uniforms should be dyed pink. That would sort out the whack jobs.

All I need to know is does the cop have a shaved head, pimples and black leather gloves.

Too true.

I think it is illegal in some states to ping yourself.

Seriously, gotta watch them salad bars. Was thinking that this would never happen in Houston as we would just shoot the loser with a real gun. However we don't need no real guns now that we have tasers. We just had an incident about a week ago where some constables killed a mental patient with a taser gun. They were serving commitment papers on him and tried to subdue him with a taser, but unbeknownst to them he had a heart condition. Cops were not in the wrong as they were told the man had no health conditions (except for the being nuts part).

Thanks for the ping.

All 140,000 of them? What a sweeping statement. Methinks your kids may end up like the guy in this article.

Check out some of the police corruption numbers, like, for example, the number of CHP returing on disability. Rampant felony fraud.

The sad fact is, most cops lie and steal.
