Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority
And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.

THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
Thanks for the updates
Cantwell is saying that the oil from ANWAR will be exported to other countries and not use for us??
.
The Senate convened at 9:00 a.m. and adjourned at 9:48 p.m. Six record votes were taken.
9:00 a.m.: Convene and resume consideration of S. Con. Res. 18, the Fiscal Year 2006 Budget Resolution.

I have heard that before. I do not know if it is true or not. Does not make sense to me. If true, I bet there is a way to change that. The thing is, the libs don't want it whether we get the oil or someone else does. They don't care. They are in the grip of the radical envirowackos. One more point: if these reserves are drilled, they will be added to the world's oil supply, which will help in bringing down the price. Speaking of price, Cantwell and her ilk don't want more oil refineries built in America, yet lack of refining capacity is an even bigger problem than lack of supply. Libs are hopeless, and hopelessly wrong, on this issue.
Frist is up talking about Terri Schiavo.
He says she is not in a coma, a persistent vegitative state. The initial diagnosis is being questioned. She can be rehabilitated and can substantially improve. She had no written directive regarding the end of her life. Should a conscious woman who is breathing on her own but has a disability be starved to death.
D@MN!! I missed it!
That's why we are here for each other ;) Frist said they would have to deal with this before they recess.
LOL!
Gregg just busted Corzine!
Hillary on the floor......
Hillary! following Stabenow (that woman is hugh!!!) could not find her hairdresser today. She is talking about how well off she and her husband are when it comes to health care. The shrillness factor is picking up.
Remember the story that came out when Pres. Bush put forth his budget about him not fully funding border patrol agents?
At the time I said if Congress wants to fund it they'll fund it well here's the funding for it...
The Senator from Texas [Mrs. HUTCHISON], for herself, Mr. Ensign, Mr. Domenici, Mr. Cornyn, Mr. Kyl, Mr. McCain, and Mrs. Feinstein, proposes an amendment numbered 218.
[Page: S2828] GPO's PDF
Mrs. HUTCHISON. Mr. President, I ask unanimous consent that reading of the amendment be dispensed with.
The PRESIDING OFFICER. Without objection, it is so ordered.
The amendment is as follows:
Norm Coleman is up speaking for no cuts in Community Developement Block Grants because, by golly, they work.
Yes, but he voted against ANWR which would provide a lot more well paying jobs than block grants---I wouldn't look for him to get too many "favors" from his fellow REps, today!
BTW, I know this is a Senate site, but I do know that the House is supposed to vote on the resolution that would help keep Terri Shiavo's feeding tube from being removed, at least until her federal civil rights were explored--
Just for anyones info that is following Terri's case!!!
Speaking of hairdressers
Did you see Nancy Botox on the news yesterday?
She was in a major need of a tune up on the roots
The gray hair was in full bloom
If the GOP knew they had the votes, they may have allowed Coleman to stray from the reservation on this vote..
I do not believe Block Grants work. I don't think states and cities should be begging to have some of their money back. I do not think Coleman is on the right side of this issue any more than he was on the right side of ANWR. I thought I'd better make this clear before a FReeper less kind than you took me to task for being stupid enough to think that Block Grants are a good idea. They are just a less bad idea.
