In 1976, Jesse Hardy bought 160 acres of swampland that nobody else wanted. And he intends to keep it.
Proposal: Let the project move forward. Leave this guy on his land. If it doesn't flood just wait for his heirs and assigns to think about all the money they can get.
If it does flood, offer him $60,000. Looks like he's got his own trucks to move out of there.
wow, what a headline =o)
Sounds to me like another land grab by government/enviroweenies "for the betterment of nature"....
I think nature has it too good as it is....
It's HIS land, leave the man the "F" alone....
Why not take the land that caused the problem? This land may have been the result of it but it was the development nearer to the Everglades and lake Ocherchobee[sp] that caused it in addition to the drawing of ground water because of the exploding population.
This man is thought to be an easy victim to sacrifice on their altars fo Good Ideas. I hope he keeps his attitude and wins.
SElf sufficient vet is an easy mark, I guess.
We really love our vets!
The government is actually treating this guy much better than most, at least it has offered to BUY the land.
Yes. We do!
Don't you just love a guy that's not afraid to speak his mind?
He's willing to leave them to their plans.
It opens more frank discussion about environmentalism, so I applaud the guy.
Me too. It looks like he has them bamboozled.
Too often these immensely expensive environmental fixes just make matters worse or at the very least change nothing.
Probably because he has income to fight them.
200 trucks a day @ $18 = $3600
$3600 x 5 days a week = $18000 per week
$18000 x 52 weeks = $936000 per year.
Doesn't seem like he needs the money they're offering.
Why not just move everyone out of Florida and let it go back to the alligators?
It certainly adds up, doesn't it?
The house and its appliances, like this stove, are powered either by solar energy, propane or a big generator out back.
One of Jesse Hardy's cats lounges on his property, east of Naples. Also sharing the digs are a few more pets and a family friend and her son.
I support him, but 4.5 mil will buy alot of land in other parts of florida- at $1500 an acre in N.FL that's 3,000 acres for 160 acres. Think I'd do it...
The land produces income of almost $1,000,000 per year.
Most of us would.
He's not interested in the money.
At the moment's, he's enjoying the power.
It vindicates his belief that land is power.
