Korn Finds Christianity [Guitarist leaves band to devote talents to God]
Music IGN ^ | 04/01/05 | Music IGN

According to a news blurb posted on the official Korn website, long time guitarist Brian "Head" Welch has parted ways with the band.

The news is a little vague, not to mention just a tad bit mysterious, as the official posting merely states that Head "has chosen the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior, and will be dedicating his musical pursuits to that end."

While speculations regarding the fate of the remaining members of the group has been circulating the Net, the posting states that "Jonathon, Fieldy, James, and David are personally closer than ever, and are currently in the studio working on their 8th record..."

The new album, which is still untitled at this juncture, is scheduled to be released some time in September 2005.

Here's another pleasant surprise in the 'Guess who's a Christian Department'...

Alice Cooper.

Yes, THAT Alice Cooper.

I wish him luck in his journey. Amazing how many of these hardcore metal rockstars seem to have some little secret that you wouldn't expect.

-He's also a Republican.

WINNIPEG -- In the eyes of Alice Cooper, all the rock stars campaigning for Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry are guilty of one thing: treason. The shock-rock legend, a staunch Republican who attends NBA games in Phoenix with Arizona Senator John McCain, was disgusted when he learned of plans by Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, R.E.M. and other bands to hold a series of concerts aimed at unseating U.S. President George W. Bush.

Please elaborate, as in: when did this happen, what are the circumstances, etc?

What's interesting is that more of the Heavy Metal/Hard rockers are pro-Bush and Christian than the Pop Rock scene.

I guess I'm peripherally part of the music business. I work with a company that replicates CDs and DVDs. Most of the music CDs/DVDs we do are absolute garbage, but I just did a CD for a Christian group that was awesome. I figured it would be the same kind of pious garbage we normally crank out in lots of 500-5000 units, but this was great. I listened to it 4 times yesterday. The musicians could actually play their instruments. The singers could sing, and I wasn't embarassed by the songwriting....

There are definitely some talented musicians out there who now play for Christ....

How do you feel about Hardcore Metal Christian bands? I don't quite get how people are so closed off to it. Where does the Bible say that loud music is against the teachings of Christ? It's all social propaganda in my eyes.

God will use a Heavy Metal Christian Band to reach people I can't. I might have my musical preferences and prejudices, but God doesn't. If some band that plays three loud chords does so to expand the Kingdom who am I to sneer...?

Not sure about the specifics of his spiritual development, but his father was a minister (Lutheran, I think), and his wife is the daughter of a minister. He went through a period of alcoholism in the '70s, but he wasn't really as debauched as he appeared. He didn't even start drinking until he was in his 20s, and he was never never a druggie or much of a womanizer (he's been with his wife since the '70s, iirc).

I really like it. And I fail to understand how somepeople can think that singing about God and Jesus can be satanic.

Luke 15:10

Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

Other than a bit of drinking almost all of Alice Coopers act was just that, an act ment to sell more records. It didn't help that he was a decent musician either.

But I still like the Eagles more. :)
