Colorado Lt. Gov. Jane Norton ended speculation that she would run for governor in 2006, saying today she had no plans to do so.
Norton, a Republican who served as executive director of the state Department of Public Health and Environment for four years before joining Gov. Bill Owens' ticket in 2002, had been mentioned as a possible candidate.
She did not elaborate on her decision.
Republican state Treasurer Mike Coffman has formed an exploratory committee for the office, and University of Denver President Marc Holtzman, a Republican, has said he will leave the school by the end of this year to help the party by either recruiting candidates or running for governor.
Potential Democratic candidates include Rep. Mark Udall, millionaire entrepreneur Rutt Bridges, former Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter and former Lt. Gov. Gail Schoettler, who narrowly lost to Owens in 1998.
What's the scoop on these Pubbies? And how come Colorado comes through so nicely for Bush and so horribly down-ticket?? Anything you can share w the FReepWorld??
Forget about Tancredo; he's not running with his visit to NH last month. It's pretty much a two-man race between Treasurer Mike Coffman and University of Denver president, Marc Holtzman, the latter having a ton of money.
Ping
Salazar was in a solid position from the start, as I recall.
I like Coffman -- any word on what the other dude's like?
She should have run against Ken Salazar last year.
he--in your last sentence--is coors or salazar? who ran disgusting?
I prefer Scot McInnis or Bob Schafer to run for Governor.
