Swearing Is Just Pathetic, Says Sex Pistol Star
By Anita Singh, PA Showbusiness Editor
They outraged the nation with their four-letter outburst on teatime television but former Sex Pistol Glen Matlock now says he disapproves of swearing.
The bands bassist claims repeated use of the f-word is pathetic.
Now a respectable family man, Matlock does not like his children, aged 11 and seven, hearing obscenities on the radio or TV.
Its pathetic when people just swear for the sake of it, the 48-year-old tells a Channel 4 show this Sunday.
Something ought to be done about it.
His words may come as a surprise to fans of the punk rockers who will go down in history for their appearance on Bill Grundys Thames Today programme in 1976.
When lead singer Johnny Rotten muttered a swear word under his breath, a worse-for-wear Grundy goaded the band members to say something outrageous.
The band duly obliged with a volley of obscenities which outraged Britain and killed Grundys career.
Matlock makes his comments in X Rated: The TV Shows They Tried To Ban, which replays the infamous incident.
The bass player wrote The Sex Pistols three big hits Anarchy In The UK, God Save The Queen and Pretty Vacant.
But he was replaced in 1977 by Sid Vicious, allegedly because he was a fan of the Beatles.
He formed a new band, The Philistines, and regularly performs in aid of childrens charities.
It's not even original any more, but I sure wish I had a nickel for every lowbrow who thinks it is.
Johnny "Rotten" Lydon could not be reached for comment, as he was still passed out drunk in an Ibiza nightclub.
Sid Vicious is, of course, still dead.
WTF?
:D
This is like the old saying "Stop f'n swearing!"
All people have the capacity to grow up.
LOL. I love your screen name and I love to say it.
He was and is still cute, too. I must admit I liked the Pistols a lot.
Am I in the wrong thread?
Well, Glen always was the 'normal' one. And their secret weapon -- they never, ever would have gotten as far as they did if he didn't write their excellent, rockin' tunes, with key changes and everything.
Everyone, it seems, except for my 3 teenagers. By the way the Pistols were one of my favorite bands, so maybe my kids are not really too bad after all.
>> Sid Vicious is, of course, still dead.
yeah, but who killed Bambi?
Check out his homepage . In the " I was a teenage sex pistol " section he uses the F word 4 times , and the S word twice .
I got that screen name from an old Benny Hill routine. He was posing as a British headmaster (or something to that effect) and said to one of his students, "Go and see Mrs. Ramsbotham. And when you've seen it, report back to me." It's pronounced "Rams bottom." Of course it can be interpreted in another way, though that really wasn't the intention!
LOL. Benny Hill...I should have guessed, as it was staring me in the face like Mr. Ramsbotham is. Now that I've seen you, do *I* report back to the British headmaster? And what do I *report*?
How should I format and from *what* perspective?
Why, that you've seen Mr. Ram's bottom. Which will be an utter lie, of course. Mr. Ram doesn't go around exposing that part of his anatomy.
