A Falls Church man accused of conspiring to assassinate President Bush met several times with an al Qaeda leader in Saudi Arabia who once was the target of a global manhunt and a key suspect in an attack that killed nine Americans in Riyadh, law-enforcement authorities said.

Ahmed Omar Abul Ali, scheduled for a detention hearing tomorrow in federal court on charges of providing material support to al Qaeda, met with Zubayr al-Rimi in Saudi Arabia between September 2002 and June 2003...

I'm unimpressed with al-qaeda's military capabilities, though it has found a niche in manipulating a willing Western press.

From Beslan in Russia to Bali in the Pacific to 9/11 and 3/11, the embassy bombings in Africa, anthrax attacks, the attack on the USS Cole, Khobar Towers, Washington sniper, etc... Their successes have only come from surprise attacks, and even those have been few and far between.

They've been unable to stop free elections in Afghanistan or Iraq. They won't be able to keep the Syrians in Lebanon (which means that Hezbollah is about to get whacked), either. Heck, I doubt that they can even stop the impending free elections in Togo and Egypt.

They've been unable to respond to our successful invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq with anything more than a token attack or two here.

They are either in hiding or on the run, worldwide.

Their successes have only come from surprise attacks

But that's essentially true of any terrorist organization. They're a bunch of cowards, looking to slaughter as many innocent adults and children as they can. When they go up against legitimate military organizations, they don't last long (in spite of how many times the media tells us how well trained they are).

I've said it many times before. We'll never know how many terrorists and would-be terrorists were dispatched from this Earth before they could do harm thanks to all those pick-up trucks conducting suicidal charges against our tanks and Bradley fighting vehicles.

Don't overestimate the will of the Lebanese to throw off tyranny. Hezbollah may end up the new army of occupation.

Lock him up, he didn't go to Saudi Arabia for the weather.

Abu Ali is just another junior jihadi from the Dar al Hijra mosque in Falls Church, VA.

Despite the usual MSM handwringing (e.g., WashPost) that the case is thin, not a single one of our Northern VA al Qaeda members has yet to be acquitted.

In fact one and all they've pleaded guilty to serious federal felonies and have gotten stiff jailtime. Even the "paintball jihadis" accepted terms of 7, 10, and 15 years in the slammer rather than fight the charges against them.

CAIR will whine. Our Wahabbi clan from Dar al Hijra will moan. The MSM will valiantly try to make "an issue" about Saudi detention laws. But in the end Mr. Abu Ali will probably go for a 20 year plea bargain on 80 years of federal charges.

Just wait and watch.

The indictment said Mr. Abu Ali, a U.S. citizen and 1999 valedictorian of the Islamic Saudi Academy in Alexandria, told the co-conspirators he wanted to become a planner of terrorist operations like Khalid Shaikh Mohammed,

Mama, don't let your babies grow up to be jihadis....
