Congrats to all who freeped.

I live close to Hollywood and Highland. As many of you know, they shut down this street for 10 days around the Oscar event. It causes a horrible traffic problem not just for us local residents, but for a lot of poeple as many people use the Highland exit off the 101 to get to work in the city or to get home. Crossing town is ridiculously slow in this area as it is, but when they do these events it is gridlocked madness and they do not properly detour the traffic or open other streets for "one way" or anything they should do to improve the traffic flow.

It makes me angry that these hollywood types fly in from Aspen or limo in from Malibu for 5 hours one a day, while the rest of the city suffers 10 days of traffic madness for their little self-congratulations party.

I want to get a petition and a city-wide intiative on the ballot that would PREVENT the city from closing down any street for more than 24 hours for a special event like the Oscars or a movie premier; PREVENT any street that was closed for such an even from being closed again within 7 days, and MANDATE that the event organizers who do cause a street to be closed to hire traffic officers to redirect traffic, place "road closure / detour" signs within a one mile radius and turn streets into "one way" streets to improve traffic flow during that 24 hour time period.

I've had it with this traffic madness on Hollywood Blvd and all the surrounding streets as a result.

Anyone game?

Talk about shutting down traffic...

Drudge Report headline...tells us more than street traffic
is being shut down!

Soon, Internet Traffic (and political activism!)
may be under international control!

China charges U.S. monopolizes the Internet, seeks global control...

We seem to have MELTED DOWN the PhotoBucket server where Hi Heels posted her images.
They should reappear in a day or two.
And, we are just about ready to post a NEW thread, with MANY MORE wonderful images from this rally. :o)

See also, from photobucket.com/faq.php:

Q: How much space and bandwidth do I get?
A: Currently free accounts get 25 megs of space and 1,500 megs of bandwidth per month. Premium accounts have these restrictions lifted.

-- snip --

Q: I am getting a "Bandwidth Exceeded" picture in place of my images, what is bandwidth?
A: Bandwidth in Photobucket terms is a measure of the number of bytes passed over time via direct linking, etc. It is calculated by adding up the size of each of your images as they are sent from Photobucket. Example: You have various images of 25K each in size - they are viewed by by 100 users on your favorite message board in one day. 25K * 100 requests = 2500K (or 2.5M) of bandwidth used in one day. Please be careful not to confuse bandwidth with your album size otherwise know as disk usage which is discussed above.

Q: How often does my bandwidth usage reset?
A: Bandwidth resets each month on the day you originally registered. Example: you registered on the 5th of June - your bandwidth will reset on on 5th of each month. You can view your original registration day in your "account options", please see the field "Member since".

Q: I removed a number of images from my album but my bandwidth has not decreased.
A: Bandwidth is cummulative over time, it does not go down. Please see the question on what is bandwidth. Your bandwidth usage does reset on the day you registered of each month.

GOLDBERG'S REPUBLICAN SWIPE

Funnywoman WHOOPIE GOLDBERG has hit back at Republicans gloating about President GEORGE W BUSH's election victory - by sending them a box of chocolates accompanied by cutting letter.

Right-wing group CITIZENS UNITED has been renting billboards all over Hollywood to poke fun at high-profile celebrities who opposed Bush's re-election campaign.

A poster bearing images of Goldberg, MICHAEL MOORE, BARBRA STREISAND, as well as other ardent Democrat celebrities, features the jibe, "Four more years. Thank you, Hollywood!"

Goldberg responded by sending the confectionary with a note to Citizen United's Washington headquarters which reads, "Gentlemen: I didn't realise how little faith you had in your candidate. To give so much power to folks like myself is amazing.

"I thought you all said that the President won because of what he stood for, and now I come to find out that the only reason he got elected was because of people like me. This doesn't say much for your candidate. Enjoy the chocolate."

When staff members confirmed the chocolates had definitely come from Goldbery they immediately ate them with glee.

"Desperately seeking" OSCAR rally image!
FReeper help needed to find "money shot" from "Purple Finger"

After Action Report-Hollywood Freep ["Purple Finger"/"Shut Up, and ACT!" OSCAR rally] ^ | March 2, 2005 | RonDog

FReeper HELP Needed!

To paraphrase Madonna, I am "desperately seeking" an image
from our "Shut Up, and ACT!"/"Purple Finger" rally
outside last Sunday’s Academy Awards Red Carpet arrivals.
I understand that the "stars" were the main focus of the Academy Awards,
not us "barbarians" outside the gate.
But we had hoped to see at least a FEW images of our "Thank You, Hollywood!" sign...
...SOMEWHERE in the media coverage.
To date, however, we have found virtually NO images of our pro-Bush/anti-Michael Moore rally – except for one AP photo of our "Dude, Where’s MY Oscar?" sign.
Ideally, the "money shot" that we seek will be something like THIS one, from a PREVIOUS rally at that same corner:

At this year's rally, unfortunately, our people were all on the NORTH side of Hollywood Blvd.,
so none of us got the critical "money shot" (from across the street)
of our LARGE (four foot by eight foot) reproduction of the "Thank You, Hollywood!" billboard.
What we seek is a photograph of our "Thank You, Hollywood!" banner in front of the huge crowd gathered outside the old Hollywood National Bank building.

My girlfriend is a photographer and my friend's cousin is a photographer for AP I will ask them both to check around in their circles for you but I'm skeptical. I'll try though!

Thanks!
We also know that the LAPD took EXACTLY the picture that we want...
...but it may be difficult to get that image from them, as it was taken by their INTELLIGENCE division. :(

What the heck would LAPD intelligence want with a picture of us? I'd think they'd turn the cameras the other direction..... towards the ones getting out of the limos.

You wrote: "People who are paying for medical care are not getting the level of service they are paying for."

I would agree with you on that statement, BUT I fear that we have a VERY difference in ideas why and how that has happened. I know that the "professional care-givers" milk a faulty system.
