The Queen has "distanced" herself from the wedding of the Prince of Wales to Camilla Parker Bowles because she believes that her son is putting personal gratification before duty, royal courtiers have disclosed.
The courtiers also say privately that the Queen is "lukewarm" about the marriage and is worried that it could tarnish the monarchy.
Buckingham Palace announced last Tuesday that neither the Queen nor Prince Philip would be attending the civil marriage ceremony at Windsor Guildhall on April 8 because they wanted to keep the occasion "low key".
The announcement, however, was widely interpreted as a snub even though the Palace said that the Queen and other members of the Royal Family would attend the service of dedication afterwards at St George's Chapel. The Queen is also giving a wedding reception at Windsor Castle.
The courtiers said yesterday that Prince Charles's private office had been outmanoeuvred by Buckingham Palace and that Sir Robin Janvrin, the Queen's private secretary, had tried to protect her from becoming involved in a "town hall marriage" which demeaned her own status. One said: "Robin is very clever. As soon as he sensed controversy, he did what he always does and wrapped the Queen in cotton wool to make sure that she didn't get damaged by events.
The courtier said that Sir Robin's intervention was symptomatic of the Queen's long-standing concern over Charles's relationship with Camilla.
"The problems of the past week go back many years. The Queen believes that the Prince of Wales has put his own gratification and interests before duty by pursuing his relationship with Camilla, and she can never forgive that."

Lol...
There's also the matter of: Three bottles, fives bottle...still can't tell.
worried that it could tarnish the monarchy.
A little late to be worrying over that since there are so many scandals in that family. Anyway, let Charles and Camilla marry. It is NOT our business. Not big fans of any of the royals but...
bad taste. Very bad taste.
What duty? Ribbon cuttings at shopping malls?
"When it came to the monarchy, we French set the only acceptable standard in 1782. Le Guillotine!
Particularly deserving is that retard Prince . . . ugh, I forgot his name. You know, the bastard child Diana had with the Army captain. The one with the Nazi costume. He shows that there is a thin fine line between Hitler and the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (the Windsors' true name)."
Irony of the Hour: Self-righteous Vichy French person spewing "Hitler" and other ad hominems.
WOW! I haven't seen an up to date photo of her until now.
Never mind the smoking... at what point will she realize that the Farrah Fawcett doo is about as chic as Ol' Crusty?
Yes, I did. Thank you. She was such a good mother. Those boys looked so happy when they were with her. I wish she could have lived to see them grown up.
I'm glad some people aren't on the "hate Diana" bandwagon. That girl was handed a raw deal, and railroaded into a marriage of convenience. Then she was mocked and ridiculed by the world. I was struck by the friendship that developed between her and Mother Theresa. Notice that when Diana died, Mother Theresa followed within a week.
Thanks to the rotten treatment she received, the monarchy may never recover the status they once enjoyed. A King William could change that. He has a good head on his shoulders. One of these days, we'll see a pic of him and Condi, shaking hands :)
Speaking of heirs, Prince Harry is looking more and more like his father as the years pass. I think he gets his coloring from Diana's brother, his uncle. Unfortunately, he is beginning to act like the chucklehead his father is. Oh yes, Chuck is indeed the father of Prince Harry.
Beautiful pic of Di and her sons. Thanks for posting it :)
Never mind the smoking... ...
Charles is sort of an alternative health nut. That's the funny thing. He's gone to homeopathic doctors
Camilla Parker-Bowles, a three-pack-a-day smoker who could eat apples through a picket fence.......
What a put down! She's part of the horsey set alright.
Dear Al Simmons,
"Is that more accurate?"
No, not at all.
The Latin Patriarchy didn't have a problem with the practice of the Eastern Patriarchies permitting married men to become parish priests, and permitting only celibate, non-married men to become bishops.
The Catholic Church, to this day, permits Eastern Rite Catholics to allow married men to become parish priests, following the Orthodox practice. Only in the Roman Rite is celibacy the general rule, and even then, exceptions can be made.
There were many issues that drove the schism between East and West. I've never read, in all my years, that the general rule of celibacy becoming standard in the Roman Patriarchy was a significant, or even a minor cause of the schism.

Well there ya go.
Then she was mocked and ridiculed by the world.
Mocked and ridiculed? My word, she was LOVED by the world. I didn't see her being mocked at all.
Too bad Andrew did not stick up for his wife. He lost a good one.
Yes he did. Glad they remain friends. Seems none of those boys could stand up and go against the royal whatevers. That's why I admire "Edward...the Uncrowned King." He was a man in love and he chose his love over a crown.
