University of Colorado officials are considering offering Ward Churchill an early retirement package that could end an increasingly uncomfortable standoff with the controversial professor.
Two people familiar with internal CU discussions said the still-undetermined offer is in the idea stage. The discussions come just a week before a three-person panel is scheduled to deliver a report on Churchill's fitness for tenure.
David Lane, Churchill's attorney, said he has not been contacted about a buyout offer.
But, he said, while his primary focus is on protecting Churchill's constitutional right to speak out, he would be willing to listen to a university proposal.
"If they offer $10 million, I would think about it. If they offer him $10, I wouldn't," Lane said.

University of Colorado is going to pay big amounts of money to get him leave? This is becoming simply outrageous.

"..This is becoming simply outrageous."
..And then some. He should be dismissed.

I read an article here the other day that said that new admissions
to CU are down nearly 20%.............surely this course of action
won't help the situation.

The people of Colorado should take up a collection. The sooner they're rid of this walking embarrassment, the better.

This is becoming simply outrageous.Just fire his a$$ for lying about being an Indian when he was given the post at ethnic studies. Plus was given tenure with inadequate academic requirements solely because he was an Indian. This clown is neck deep in scams and fraudulent misrepresentation.

He should be fired for falsifying his resume before being hired. CEOs etc have been terminated for that, why not him ?

If I was a Colorado taxpayer, I'd be going ballistic. The man lied both in his original resume and his subsequent academic writings. There are plenty of reasons to fire him JEEEEZ

CU regents have said they are bound by due process

This didn't appear to stop them in the hiring practice....
lets see..
Claimed to be a Indian........Now admits he's NOT
degree from a second rate diploma mill..
No thesis on file with UI, nor reviewed by UC..
Granted tenure without PHD....
Claimed Army Airborne LRRP with Vietnam combat experience,
was a Audio Visual Tech trained on film projectors and film strip machines. Wrote for a Battalion Newsletter
Claimed awarded Combat Infantryman's Badge
Seems like alot of DUE PROCESS to boot his a$$ out the door
for fraudulent application at LEAST !!!!

To offer this man anything is outrageous! The Colorado taxpayers should be organizing a class action suit against him personally. The man is a fraud and a liar and a scam artist. I don't think any reasonable person would see a need to reward him. He should be sued until he is so broke he has to live on the streets of San Francisco.

Of course this piece of academic slime and his bottom-dwelling lawyer are "considering" the possibility of a buy-out. Churchill is in this for notoriety, and money. Keep in mind that every speech he gives at another university is a PAID gig.
The usual payday for a single speech (like he just did at Hawaii) is $3,000 for a speaking fee, plus all expenses. That's not a bad payday. "Academic stars" get much more than that. This is the normal pay.
The first interesting item will be the report of the three-person committee. It's already been posted on FR that two of the three are involved in either the promotion or pay for the "good" professor. So, it will be quite a step if the committee recommends termination. (Anything less than that is a white-wash, sell-out, suck-up, choose your phrase.)
Assume the committee does its job and recommends firing. Assume the President of the University then carries out that step. What will follow is years of appeals, and lawsuits claiming the firing was unconstitutional. If the University has any principles, it will fire him, and deal with what comes.
Few universities have principles that they would "go to the mattresses" for. And in that poor company, Colorado is near the bottom. So, I expect that the University will try to buy Churchill off. That, however, will REALLY leak off the Colorado legislature.

What would get his butt fired would be if some of the liberal women he's boinked came forward. Women who went to bed with him because they were sucked in by his native American rap. I have freepmail from a guy who saw how he operated 25 years ago

This is the normal pay. It's true. And I've worried all along that we were just making this guy into a counterculture superstar.
Then, the plagiarism stuff cropped up. Tracing somebody else's artwork is pretty low rent. I'm hoping it's enough to take the luster off his reputation.

The University of Colorado is paying ransom to prevent a lawsuit from the likes of the ACLU. One more reason to disband the ACLU, then toss this vermin professor out on his ponytail.

He lied to get the position. Why would they pay him anything and why wouldn't they sue him for lying? He denied a well qualified person from assuming the position he holds? He is a fraud and they are afraid of him. Take him to court. File an action ASAP. He is a bully and a cheat. Call him on it.
