Westerners don't understand how asian folk feel about birds
and fish. Really quite wonderful.

Asians don't understand how western folk feel about dogs and cats either. When I was living in SE Asia they were having a plague of dognapping for the restaurants catering to that taste. I personally witnessed one, the guys came swooping in on their motorcycle, the guy on the back grabbed the mutt and somehow kept it from biting as they zoomed away.
Three or four years ago the authorities in Hanoi started cracking down on catnapping. That was for the southern China palate, but the absence of cats was causing field rats to inundate the rice fields.
Not to worry, the bird flu scare in Cambodia caused people to switch from chicken to field rat for dinner.
