Your Oscar Predictions?
self

Posted on 02/26/2005 12:19:12 AM PST by L.A.Justice

Best Picture:

1. The Aviator

2. Sideways

3. Finding Neverland

4. Million Dollar Baby

5. Ray

Which should win: I have seen all of them...Between Sideways and The Aviator, I liked Sideways.

Which will win: The Aviator.

Best Director:

Martin Scorsese for THE AVIATOR (Miramax)

Clint Eastwood for MILLION DOLLAR BABY (Warner Bros.)

Taylor Hackford for RAY (Universal Pictures)

Alexander Payne for SIDEWAYS (Fox Searchlight)

Mike Leigh for VERA DRAKE (Fine Line Features)

Comment: I did not watch VERA DRAKE...A film, about a woman doing abortions, did not interest me. Again, my choice would be SIDEWAYS. But, THE AVIATOR will probably win.

Best Actor:

Don Cheadle for HOTEL RWANDA (United Artists)

Johnny Depp for FINDING NEVERLAND (Miramax)

Leonardo DiCaprio for THE AVIATOR (Miramax)

Clint Eastwood for MILLION DOLLAR BABY (Warner Bros.)

Jamie Foxx for RAY (Universal Pictures)

Note: I did not see HOTEL RWANDA...My choice is Leo. But, Foxx will win.

Best Supporting Actor:

Alan Alda for THE AVIATOR (Miramax)

Thomas Haden Church for SIDEWAYS (Fox Searchlight)

Jamie Foxx for COLLATERAL (Dreamworks SKG)

Morgan Freeman for MILLION DOLLAR BABY (Warner Bros.)

Clive Owen for CLOSER (Columbia Pictures)

Note: Church would be my pick. But, Freeman will win.

Best Actress in a Leading Role:

Annette Bening - BEING JULIA (Sony Pictures Classics)

Catalina Sandino Moreno - MARIA FULL OF GRACE (Fine Line Features)

Imelda Staunton - VERA DRAKE (Fine Line Features)

Hilary Swank for MILLION DOLLAR BABY (Warner Bros.)

Kate Winslet for ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND (Focus Features

Note: I have not seen BEING JULIA...Hilary Swank will win.

Best Supporting Actress:

Cate Blanchett for THE AVIATOR (Miramax)

Laura Linney - KINSEY (Fox Searchlight Pictures)

Virginia Madsen for SIDEWAYS (Fox Searchlight)

Sophie Okonedo - HOTEL RWANDA (United Artists)

Natalie Portman for CLOSER (Columbia Pictures

Note: I did not watch KINSEY...I think Blanchett will win. I think she deserves it...

I don't want to break my perfect Oscar viewer record, so I won't be watching again this year.

Then Chris Rock may presume that you are straight.

I predict that 90-percent of America will not give a flying leap about the Oscars, and will not watch, due in part to the choice by lib power-mongers to install the foul-mouthed Chris Rock as MC of the event.

After all, for those who care about what Hollywood offers in 2005, who wants to think that Rock represents the best of our entertainment personalities.

The movie industry used to represent classy elegance so uniquely American that the rest of the world used to perk up and notice.

Thanks to choices like Rock, the Oscars now represent a spoiled, smarter-than-thou class of leftists who are intent on boosting the "prestige" of terrorist type loonies at the expense of American security.

If rational actors in Hollywood were smart, they would launch a real Oscar ceremony, one which focuses on movie and acting greatness and leaves behind all the Bush-hating, conservative bashing rhetoric which has not become ingrained in the wacky Beverly Hills crowds.

There was an interesting scene in SIDEWAYS...A "white trash"(?) couple was having sex. The TV was on in the living room...It showed Bush and Rumsfeld at a press conference. (Paul Giamatti character had to get something in that house...for his friend.)

Nevertheless, I still liked SIDEWAYS. Acting was good.

MILLION DOLLAR BABY...Michael Medved had a very low opinion of that film. I had a higher regard for that film than Medved. I liked the story about the bonding between Eastwood character and Hilary Swank character...But, I had a real problem with how the film ended...

FINDING NEVERLAND...It was a good movie. Good acting...But, I was not as impressed as some of the movie critics.

THE AVIATOR and RAY...They were very good...But, they dragged on and on at times.

I don't really care, but I think Million Dollar Baby will win. They're desperate to make it a hit.

The IFC awards are much better, not a political butt kissing contest or a ceremony to give someone an award because they never got one, even if in an inferior movie.

Anyways, I loved Sideways, and enjoyed The Aviator, and just caught Being Julia, fun little soap opera, Annette was great in it.

Sideways and Ray are both excellent. We saw them recently. I would vote for Sideways to win it all except best actor. Can we have a tie? Jamie Fox and Paul Giamati and Johnny Depp????? and Clint!
