Fla. Woman's Feeding Tube to Stay in Place
Reuters ^ | 2-25-2005

A judge on Friday extended for three weeks a court order keeping Terri Schiavo's feeding tube in place, the latest in a series of legal developments in the bitter right-to-die case.

Pinellas Circuit Court Judge George Greer made his decision after pleadings from the woman's parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, that they need more time to pursue additional medical tests which might prove their brain-damaged daughter has more mental capabilities than previously thought.

The woman's husband, Michael Schiavo, says he is seeking to carry out his wife's wishes not to be kept alive artificially.

Thak you Lord! I pray they find something positive with these tests! Imagine having to buy time to keep your child alive like she is a common criminal! maybe the rat husband will get hit by a truck before then!

I can't see why Freepers are so adamant about keeping this poor woman alive. If I came across a dog in that condition, I would shoot it. Granted, people ain't dogs, but I would not want to be kept alive in a near-vegetable state. It's just cruel.

Jail the husband and let poor Terry die in peace.

Thank God! Lets pray it stays in indefinitely. God Bless you Terri. Did I read somewhere that michael would get millions when she dies?

Wrong! It is the latest in a series of legal developments in the bitter right-to-finish-murdering-your-wife case.

For God's sake then wouldn't it be evident to the courts why he is so anxious to end her ilfe? With millions at at stake?

"letting her die of starvation and dehydration" is the method.

No-one is going to "shoot her and put her out of her misery" they are going to attempt to kill her slowly and painfully.

Otherwise, she is living in a calm state of semi-consciousness - thanks to her loving parents.

My name is Michael Shiavo and I hereby order ALL of you dimwit Freepers to cease and desist from making your false accusations against me, d'ya hear me?

I love my wife , Terri, with all my heart and soul. I have never, ever, done anything to harm Terri. In fact, I have bent over backwards to see to it that she receives all the help and therapy that she needs and deserves.

Furthermore, because Terri told me she would never want to live in the condition that she is in (fed via inserted tube), I am lovingly doing everything possible to fulfill her declared wishes.

And finally... if you don't get your ignorant Freeper a@@es off my case, I will see to it that your logon tubes are removed... so you can gently dwindle down into Freeper eternity !!! ;-))

All I can say to you, sir or madam, is that you have obviously not seen the videos of Terrie interacting with her parents. She is not at all in a near-vegatative state - brain damaged to be sure but without never receiving any therapy, who knows where she might have been by now or could be in the future.

Fortunately, for many stroke patients and the medical profession, people like you have not been in charge of their prognosis or they would not be alive today.

I suppose that you would also have "allowed" Christopher Reeve to "die in peace" as well.

Would you deny the dog food and water until it died? If you did the same thing to a dog that they want to do to this poor woman you would go to jail for being cruel to the dog.

They wouldn't kill the most horrible criminal on death row in this manner because it's inhumane, yet they want to take the life of this woman whose only crime was to survive her husband's attempts to squeeze the life out her. She has committed no crime at all yet they will try to kill her in a manner that is inhumane to animals. They want to remove food and water from her until she dies. Do you think that will be painless for her? She is living and breathing on her own. We are all just a few bites of food and drinks of water away from death. Her miserable excuse for a husband wants her dead and has denied her even the most basic rehabilitative care. He won't even allow her teeth to be brushed.

Her parents want to care for her until God, in His infinite wisdom and timing, takes her home. Why not leave it to God???

With all due respect, I don't think you have been following this situation closely.

There are videos showing that Mrs. Shivo responds to voices with facial expressions, she smiles, and her eyes move toward movement. I believe that I am correct in saying this. I saw a video that proved to my satisfaction that she has some awareness to people and surroundings AND SHOULD NOT BE KILLED!

Who knows what progress may be achieved if she had been (or will be) afforded specific medical attention. I understand that her husband has refused to spend money on therapy which could make a difference.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

My Father was a quadriplegic with MS. He had to be fed, shaved, wiped, etc. I grew up around many severely disabled people. Yes caring for them was a hardship on the caregivers, but it taught compassion.

That "evil", so-called husband, Michael, Judge Greer and Lawyer Felos will rot in hell. Murdering someone because they are inconveniencing you is bad enough. Starving them to death is torture. The parents know Terry better than you or her "so-called" husband. What a sick society we live in that anyone could think this was OK. If they do remove Terri's feeding tube, maybe you should fast from food and water until she dies and tell us how it feels!

Because she isn't dying and never has been dying. What they are talking about is killing her - not letting her die.

D. Thomas wrote a poem DO NOT GO GENTLE INTO THAT GOOD NIGHT. It speaks of a son's love for his dying father and the will to live. It is man's duty to fight for breath and life even though the hereafter is not to be feared. There is a better life than this one but it is man's duty to live.

Should one take an expedient view of human life or a sacred view of human life?

Is Greer having second thoughts about this whole mess? That's two decisions in a week against Felos and Michael Schiavo. The other day Felos told Greer he didn't have jurisdiction in this case anymore.
There may be cracks on the "right-to-continue-murdering-your-wife" side of the case.

Michael Shiavo apparently has two wifes is this allowed. should he not divorce one. Wonder how this appears to his two kids their father going about doing everything he can to end the life of another. Seems it would be best if he took care of his own. Wonder what he would do if it was one of his kids that was the one in the hospital.

Hm. When I clicked on the Reuters link, I found this wording:

CLEARWATER, Fla. (Reuters) - A Florida judge on Friday cleared the way for the husband of a severely brain-damaged woman to remove her feeding tube next month over the objections of her parents.

Fifteen years to the day since a heart attack put Theresa "Terri" Schiavo into what some doctors call a persistent vegetative state, Circuit Judge George Greer ordered that the feeding tube that keeps her alive should be removed on March 18. The date was set to give her parents time to appeal the ruling.
