An episode of the NBC sitcom "Committed, featuring two characters who flush a Communion wafer down a toilet, has created a firestorm of protest among Catholics.
During the February 22 broadcast, two non-Catholics are mistakenly given Holy Communion at a Catholic funeral Mass. As recounted by the Catholic League:
"Nate, who is Jewish, and Bowie, a Protestant, dont know what to do with the Eucharist, so they make several failed attempts to get rid of it. For example, they try slipping it into the pocket of a priest, dropping it on a tray of cheese and crackers, etc.
"At one point, the priest, who is portrayed as not knowing the difference between the Host and a cracker, goes to grab the 'cracker' from a tray of appetizers; he initially balks when he discovers that it is the last one. Then he changes his mind, saying, "Oh, what the hell.
"By far the most offensive scene occurs when Nate and Bowie accidentally flush what they think is the Host down the toilet."
Catholic League President William Donahue is demanding that NBC apologize.
"To say that Catholics are angry about this show would be an understatement - the outrage is visceral and intense," he said Thursday.
"NBC has made a direct frontal assault on Roman Catholicism, choosing to mock, trivialize and ridicule the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ," Donahue added. "More than an apology is needed. This episode should be retired for good, and that is what we will demand.
Anti-Catholicism ping
As long as Donohue is promoting the homosexual agenda he should keep quiet.
Would they dare to air something as offensive to Muslims? I think not.
For those who will say we can't let such things go without response, consider this: A show like this makes blatant slams against Catholicism, we ignore it; next time someone wants to get some quickl publicity, they think of a similar stunt and then recall this one, and how it got no attention, and go on with something equally imaginative.
It blasphemes all faithful Christianity.
Agonal spasms of the licentious left.
I am not Catholic, but Protestant churches also have communion. To mock the solemn ceremony is a low thing. It shows a lack of class and disdain for religion in general. Every faith should be appalled.
I agree. For a major network to ridicule and demean the sacred practices of any religion is appalling.
I must have missed that one. Can you fill me in?
i watched that show and this is just plane stupid. he went out of the way to show respect and in the end the priest ate it. it was funny.
until "catholics" stops voting for pro abortion demrats they need to shut their pie hole and stop being so up tight about everything. good grief.
Only you think Donohue is doing this.
LOL, eddie! Thanks for lightening up this thread.
Well, maybe I am the only one paying attention. Either way, his organization should not make the claims it does and be pro-civil unions.
I'm sorry if for me the world isn't all about "reputation."
Before a show goes on the air, a number of writers, directors, producers and actors have been involved with the script. It is impossible for me to believe that NONE OF THEM had any idea what a communion host represents. Especially when one considers that hosts are also used by Episcopalians, Lutherans, Greek Orthodox and many other denominations.

Are you serious? Practicing Catholics who complain about this kind of anit-christian stuff are rarely the ones voting for pro-abortion democrats. Its the "Catholic In Name Only" crowd. (i.e.John Kerry)
